"Minji Kim is back in the States."
The air grew cold, as the group was washed over with a wave of fear and anxiety.
"Oh my gosh," Haerin mutters. "You're kidding. I'm writing my thesis on her," Danielle shares, partly excited about the criminal's arrival.
"I expect to be kept in the loop on this one," Ms. Joohyun says before clapping, "Let's show some hustle!"
That same blue beam reappeared, and Ms. Joohyun was gone. The wind whistled as it gently blew on their skin. They sat there in contemplative silence, each processing the return of one of the most infamous villains there is. Well, all except for one.
"Who's Minji Kim?" Hanni asks.
The girls watched as Mr. Park pressed a button on his remote, which projected some sort of hologram in front of their table.
"She's the last surviving member of the Kim Crime Syndicate," Mr. Park started, "Her family did the battle with the Chois in a vicious blood feud that lasted a decade."
Pictures of the families as well as the several newspapers released during the time of the feud were shown on screen. Danielle was fascinated, already gaining ideas on what to put on her paper.
"After her father's death, she inherited the keys to his kingdom: illegal arms running, smuggling, gambling, and her specialty, burglary," Mr. Park then presses another button. This time, images of many people showed up, "She's protected by a loyal band of mercenaries, led by this woman..."
"YJ."
The D.E.B.S. carefully observed the photos shown. Those girls didn't look like master criminals at all! Which further proves that they have to remain vigilant.
"It is believed that Minji Kim was behind the plot to sink Australia in 2019."
"Aur naur!" Hanni exclaims, her accent heavy. Mr. Park deeply exhales before continuing, "Three attempts have been made to apprehend her."
Shivers went down the girls' spines when they learned that all three of those attempts had failed.
"In 2020 she went underground and has not been seen or heard from since."
The hologram then closes, and all look at each other with fear. "Yikes," Hyein says. This Minji girl sure does sound like trouble. She was different - way different from all the other criminals they've dealt with before. Many if not most were just dumb shoplifters. But this? This was big.
"That's not even the bad part," Danielle spoke, looking at Hyein. "What's the bad part?" Hanni, the most clueless one out of the bunch, asked. "No one has ever fought her,"
"And lived to tell about it."
The tension was thick, so thick that you could cut through it with a knife. But then, their eyes lit up when they all took in that sweet and savory aroma. It smelled so good, it felt like they were about to float like what they see in cartoons.
"Here's your breakfast, ladies!"
After breakfast was situated, Haerin turned to Mr. Park with a curious glint in her eyes. "So, uhm, why do you think she's back in town?" As the leader of D.E.B.S Sector 1, Haerin's current priority was to find out what Minji Kim's intentions were. Why she's in L.A., and what she's doing in L.A.
"Our intel suggests she's in town to meet this woman. Wonyoung Jang. Ex-CIA, now freelance assassin. They're scheduled to meet tonight, 2000 hours." Mr. Park explains, before turning off the projector once more. "Find out what Minji is up to. Strictly surveillance. Don't try to apprehend her yourselves."
They all nod as they enjoy their food. "Damn, shit's about to go down," Hyein thought to herself, somewhat excited for tonight's stakeout. Well, it is what they do best - spying on people. Dinner at the D.E.B.S house would always consist of DoorDash orders and hot, juicy, gossip.
"Haerin, you're in charge," Mr. Park orders before turning to the girl on his left, "Danielle, you're second."
"And D.E.B.S, be careful," was the final thing he said before leaving in a similar fashion to Ms. Joohyun.
Danielle narrows her eyes, staring off into the distance as she tries to gather her thoughts. "What does a reclusive, criminal mastermind want with a trained killer?" she asks inquisitively.
