Danielle had been staying over at Minji's place for quite some time now. What used to be a meticulously organized bedroom now had a touch of lived-in chaos. The room now holds remnants of Danielle's presence.
The pair were once again settled in Minji's bed, lying side by side as they gazed up at the ceiling. They had just finished dinner, which was some orange chicken they had ordered online.
Their bodies were close, their skin occasionally brushing against each other as they spoke.
"So then this mysterious man shows up at my high school and tells me that I got accepted into Ador University and I'm like-" Danielle scoffs, "I didn't apply to Ador University."
Minji laughed at the annoyance plastered on Danielle's face as she recalled what happened. "Our government's freaky that way," Minji half-jokingly commented. "Yeah."
Danielle felt the weight of the mattress shift as Minji swiftly left the bed and marched over to the shelf in front of them, seemingly rearranging the various bear-shaped knick-knacks on display out of impulse.
Still wanting to continue their conversation, Minji looked over her shoulder and asked, "So what does the secret test in the SAT measure?"
Danielle tilted her head back and looked up to the ceiling as she thought out an answer. "I don't know."
"You never asked?"
"No. Uh, it measures spy stuff. I guess," Danielle spoke as her eyes met with Minji's, who finally looked back. There was a particular expression Minji had that Danielle couldn't quite decipher. "What's wrong, Minji?"
"It's just weird that you let this test decide what you're going to be," Minji answered, turning to fully face the girl on the bed. "-and you don't even know what it is."
"It doesn't decide who I'm gonna be. It's an aptitude test," she defended. "It measures aptitude, I guess."
Without a word, Minji simply nodded, noticing the slight shift in the girl's tone, a hint of offense etched in her voice.
"You should do what you're good at."
"No, you should do what you love."
"I am doing what I love. Why are you psychoanalyzing me?"
Minji shook her head as she raised her voice, "I'm not psychoanalyzing you!"
"I mean, just because I'm not some badass master criminal, doesn't mean that what I do isn't important," Danielle sighed, her fingers tracing the patterns on the bedsheet.
"I didn't say it wasn't important, Dani."
"Do you love a life of crime?" she then asked, her words carrying a subtle edge to them.
"Yeah, I do," Minji answered with a raised eyebrow, confused as to where the latter was taking this. "So you get a kick from hard-working, honest people."
Minji frowned, "What is your problem?"
"I just– I don't think you should be judging me, okay?" Danielle explained herself.
"I'm not judging you," Minji says with a groan, shooting Danielle a stern, almost scolding look, her voice firm as she spoke. "I'm not the one that got picked out of a gazillion people to be Miss Sunshine Crime-Fighting, Goody-Two-Shoes."
"I've never been perfect at anything," she added.
Danielle's gaze darted away from Minji, subconsciously pouting as she looked off to the side. She could feel a pang of guilt as if she had said something wrong while she fidgeted with the bedsheet nervously.
