Phil woke up with a chill. He looked to his side, no Dan. He felt a breeze go through his room and send shivers down his spine. The window was opened, and Dan left his phone. His background was a picture of Allison kissing him on the cheek. This of course made Phil cringe and grow a slight curiosity. He couldn't help it, he tried to open it. Password locked, of course.
To no less of a surprise, Dan's password was Allison. Phil scrolled through their message, all bubbly couple things like:
I love you, baby.
I love you more<3
All of which made Phil gag. He closed out his messages with Allison and opened the ones with Tommy. Curiosity got the best of him.
Tommy: Do you really hang out with Phil? He's such a faggot.
Dan: Well, I mean, he's a nice kid.
Tommy: So? Who cares. Embarrassingly enough, we used to be friends with him, and then he told us he was gay. Tell me that you're straight, please.
Dan: Oh, yeah, completely. I love chicks and fags are disgusting.
Tommy: So you'll stop hanging out with Phil?
Dan: Yeah, I'll try to.
At the exact moment Phil read that, Dan crept through the window. A tear fell from Phil's eye as he quickly closed out messages and worry spread throughout Dan.
"What's wrong Phil?" Dan asked, sitting on the bed as more tears slowly rolled down Phil's cheeks.
"You said you'll try to stop hanging out with me?"
"What? I would ne-"
"I read your conversations with Tommy."
"Why did you go on my phone?" Dan butted in, feeling invaded.
"I'm sorry I couldn't help it, but you lied and said you were straight, called 'faggots' disgusting and said that I was one, and said that you'd try to stop hanging out with me." Phil whispered back, choking up.
"I'm really sorry Phil, I didn't think of what I was doing. I didn't mean it."
"Just, save it Dan, maybe you shouldn't hang out with me." Phil said, stern yet somehow weak at the same time.
"But, Phil, I didn't mean i-"
"You should go, I'm serious." Phil said and pointed to the window, "I'm sorry, but please. It'll be what's best for the both of us, you know that."
"Ph-"
"Just, don't. Please."
Dan sighed and gave up. He sauntered over to the door and turned back, Phil now sobbing but he kept his word and made Dan know that he had to leave. Dan felt nothing but regret as he drove home and thought why there was a even a point in life.
*2 weeks later*
"Finally, the last day of school!" Tommy cried out.
There was now 3 minutes left of Dan and Phil's senior year. Dan was with Tommy and Allison and all those people, and Phil was alone with Chris and Pj, which is the way it was for 2 weeks. Dan and Phil never talked after Phil insisted they stop. For Dan, it has been pretty bad. After the whole thing happened, Dan took out his razor again. It stopped him from being clean for several weeks.
As for Phil, he was not clean ever. He cut just about every night, and he hardly eats. He'll eat a quick granola bar once a week, sometimes even twice, but it hurt too much knowing that he had lost a person he had loved when Phil thought he felt the same way. He only assumed that it was what he deserved for being so stupid and vulnerable.
