Florida, Year 2101
Louis' POV
I still remember what happened last night. It was unbelievable, but it really happened.
Flashback...
6:00 PM
Skatepark
There's an event for skateboarding in our city. Whoever wins will receive a golden trophy, a brand new skateboard, and cash.
When I was 10 years old, I became fascinated with skateboards. I liked the designs, and the way I performed tricks using a skateboard felt like home. I love skateboarding.
I still remember the first skateboard I owned, which my grandmother gave me when I was 10. She knew I really wanted a skateboard because I love to play, and I hoped to make her proud. She moved to Alabama a long time ago, and I wish I could bring back the time when she was with me so she could see me perform and win a skateboarding competition.
There are 10 skateboarders competing tonight. They come from different cities in Florida, and they are very competitive.
"Louis Aleck Cole!?" the host called out. "You are the last to perform tricks!"
"Save the best for last!" I said softly.
"Let's start the party tricks!" the host shouted, and people started to cheer.
The first performer looks like he practiced his tricks a million times because he's great.
The event goes on... After some time... This is my moment, and I will do my best to make her proud.
I start performing my tricks. They look amazed, people are cheering, the host is almost in tears—just kidding—and I finish with a smile on my face.
"The winner of the skateboarding competition is... Allie Mclaine!" Oh no, no, no. She's the first skateboarder up. The host made a mistake.
The real winner is "Louis Aleck Cole," and that's how I finished the game I played.
Midnight
But something happened. A big explosion. I fell to the ground. Helicopters came, and I thought they would help us, but they started dropping zombies.
Zombies were growling...
I got up, held my trophy, and struck it into the chest of a zombie. I saw the host, judges, and some skateboarders get bitten and turn into zombies.
I saw Allie Mclaine fall to the ground, almost bitten by a zombie, but I used my skateboard and struck it in the head. We escaped the skatepark using our skateboards.
And that's what happened last night...
"Allie, where are you?"
"Hey! I'm here," Allie responded.
"Oh, what are you doing here? I thought you just left me while I was asleep."
"I just can't believe it all happened. Somehow, we need to survive," she said softly.
"Yeah, me too. My mind is still processing what's real and what's not, but the zombie outbreak is real."
"By the way, I cleaned up my skateboard earlier, and I also cleaned up your skateboard in the river because it was so messed up with zombie blood. I swear, your little tires got stuck with a nose," Allie said with a yucky face.
"Really, I can't imagine how the freaking nose got stucked in there, but thanks for cleaning my skateboard. It smells nothing, but it looks good."
"We're under this bridge, and I'm really starving. Let's go somewhere," she said.
