After two weeks...

Maggie receives a reply from her Uncle Greg in Texas.

Dear Maggie and Charlie,

Thank God you're alive and surviving. I miss you both so much. I can't wait to see you again. Maggie, you're a strong woman, and I'm proud of you for being sturdy and taking care of Charlie. For my little boy, I want you to know that even though you're grown up now, I can still carry you like a baby. I will surprise you with many sweets when you come here to Texas. Don't worry about me; we have many securities here. I promise to drive you to the safe zone.

From Uncle Greg.

Allie's POV

Maggie is glad to know that her uncle is still surviving. She's sitting on the left side of the back seat with Charlie, who seems happy knowing Uncle Greg will surprise him with a lot of sweets. He keeps telling this to Celestia until she covers her ears.

Duke is sitting and suddenly falls asleep right beside me in the front seat. Louis is on the right side of the backseat next to his grandmother, who is sleeping. He has been mostly silent for the past few weeks after what happened to his aunt Giselle, hoping to lessen his grieving as soon as possible. I'm driving the car, and we are arriving in Jackson, Mississippi, to find Celestia's mother, Bridget.

Unexpectedly, we see several zombies heading towards our car while I'm driving. Louis decides to stop the car for a moment to shoot and kick the zombies so hard that he kills them in his anger. Louis starts sobbing and tries to hurt himself. Maggie stops him as more zombies approach, and they get back inside the car to comfort him. Duke and I kill the remaining zombies, and I immediately start driving again.

"Louis, don't hurt yourself just because you lost someone. We all have our own lives and fate. We can't change what happened, but we can continue the life we still have and live with our loved ones!" Maggie said softly to him.

"You can't understand me!" Louis replied softly.

"I understand you; we understand you! We also lost someone we love, but we continue to live. I continue to live for Charlie after we lost our parents. You should continue to live for your grandmother; you are all she has left. I know it takes time to move on, but if we choose to continue, we will understand why it happened to us," Maggie said softly, and she hugs him. Unexpectedly, Louis suddenly kisses her on the lips. Maggie looks too stunned to speak, while looking into Louis's eyes. It looks like we have a new couple forming. Luckily, his grandmother and the kids are sleeping beside them and didn't see what just happened.

"Why did you kissed me?" she asked softly, confused.

"Maggie, I kissed you because of your words. They relieved me somehow," Louis replied softly, and Maggie smiles awkwardly.

Jackson, Mississippi

11:00 AM

We arrive in Jackson, Mississippi, but barricades prevent us from heading to their camp. I park the car somewhere, and we immediately leave it. As we're about to walk in, soldiers come out and stop us.

"Stop, you can't enter without a body check!" a soldier shouted.

Soldiers start checking our bodies to ensure we haven't been bitten. Maggie and the kids are checked and cleared, followed by Duke and me. Louis is guiding his grandmother while walking in. Louis is already checked, but when the soldiers check his grandmother, they see a wound on her right foot.

"She has a wound on her right foot that looks like a bite; she can't go inside!" a soldier said.

"No, it's just a wound from a shattered piece of glass, not a bite from a zombie!" Louis argued.
