Louis' POV
We're walking in a high-rise building designated for men only. Charlie tightly holds my right hand as this place becomes creepier while we ascend the stairs. Our room is 259th on the 17th floor. Charlie seems uncomfortable, sighing deeply and looking tired, so I carry him as we walk. After some time, we reach the 17th floor and enter our room.
Duke and Charlie immediately lay down on the soft bed, while I gaze out the small window, spotting another high-rise building where Maggie and our other friends are located. The buildings are barricaded by a high wall for protection against incoming zombies.
Three days later,
I wake up looking at Charlie still sleeping, but Duke is gone. I immediately get up to find him and see him talking with men who are gambling using cards. He approaches me and says something.
"Let's meet Allie, I miss her so bad!" Duke said.
"You know we can't until Uncle Greg comes back!" I replied.
"But we've been here for three days already, and there's been no change. I wonder how much longer we'll have to wait!" Duke expressed.
"You know I miss Maggie too, but I'm just hoping for the best," I said.
"Louis, I'm hungry now, let's eat!" Charlie shouted, and we return inside our room to eat our breakfast.
"Louis, can we see my sister out there? I want to see her!" Charlie softly asked while we're eating.
"I'm sorry, Charlie, we can't see her for now. When Uncle Greg comes back, we can meet her again," I softly replied.
"I can help you with that!" a stranger said, entering our room.
"What? Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Roland. I know a hidden way to cross over to the next high-rise building there!" Roland said.
"Why are you helping us?" Duke asked.
"Well, I want to see my mother there. Her name is Thena. It's been a year since we got in here, and I'm still missing her!" Roland explained.
"What's your plan now?" I inquired.
"Soldiers watch more on the front and side of this camp, but behind the camp, soldiers never go there or watch over it. There's a way where we can cross over to the next high-rise building, but we need weapons because I know zombies are there. Some people who crossed previously never came back because they were bitten there. At midnight, we're all going out and crossing over!" Roland informed us.
"That's a great plan, but how can we find them if we're not aware of their room or floor?" Duke asked.
"You're right. It will be hard for us to get close to where they are. There are many floors and many rooms," I said.
"Well, don't worry about that. We can find out in the data room in the women's site. I just hope no soldiers will be watching in there," Roland said.
Maggie's POV
We're still here, bored, waiting for my Uncle Greg to come back. I miss Charlie and Louis. I just hope they are fine. Allie is in tears and can't even sleep enough for the three days we've been here. She misses Duke so bad. Lilac is beside me right now, playing with her toy, while Akira is outside, getting some fresh air.
I don't know how much longer we'll have to wait for my uncle. Will he ever come back, or are we just waiting for nothing? But I'm still hoping and believing he will return as soon as possible. I miss the boys of my life.
It's dinner time. Lilac is eating her food, Akira is sitting and chewing her food, while Allie doesn't want to eat. She's in tears, missing her boyfriend.
"Is she not eating with us?" Lilac softly asked.
"Allie, you have to eat something here!" Akira said while eating.
"Just eat there, don't worry about me!" Allie said.
After some time, we're done eating our dinner, and we're about to sleep now. Lilac is beside me, sleeping. I'm just thinking if we should continue waiting for my uncle or if we should go to Arizona on our own, but I know it's more dangerous out there. Louis is the man that I know will take care of Charlie. I know he will fulfill his promise to protect him no matter what. I'm just missing them so bad. Allie is still looking somewhere. I feel sleepy now. I hope for a better tomorrow for us.
Allie's POV
I miss Duke so much. I want to meet him over there, next to this high-rise building. I know he misses me too, but the rules ruined everything. I didn't know this would happen when we got here three days ago. I don't know how much longer we'll have to spend waiting for Maggie's Uncle. Earlier, I talked to a woman named Thena. She's been here for a year and wants to see her son over there. She knows about a hidden way to get over there. We plan to go there at midnight when everyone is asleep and some soldiers are watching.
Midnight,
We start walking downstairs. I don't know how we'll see them over there. We don't know their room number or floor, but I'm going in no matter what just to see him.
There's a soldier watching, but luckily, there's not much light here, so we can walk slowly. We manage to avoid being seen until we reach the other side. We're walking down slowly, but I almost get seen by a soldier. Fortunately, the soldier doesn't notice. I'm walking in the darkness of the stairs, knowing I could fall at any second, but I'm careful. We're now on the first floor where some soldiers are watching and alert. Thena told me we need a weapon; any metal rod will do. Fortunately, we find some metal here. We're walking slowly, holding a metal rod, when a soldier sees us for a second, and we start to run to the other side. He's chasing us, and then we see zombies approaching. I strike one in the head, killing it. Thena kills another one. We're now in a hidden way, walking in darkness until we see a candle of light approaching. We hide somewhere, assuming it's a soldier, but when I peek, I see Duke, Louis, and Charlie with a man. They're covered in blood, looking like they had a fight with zombies.
Duke looks at me in the distance, and I'm in tears to see him again. I run to hug him tightly. Thena is in tears too, seeing her son go over there to see her. We're all tearful with joy.
Unfortunately, the soldier who saw us earlier comes in.
"Hahaha! What is this, a family reunion? You know the rules, right?" the soldier said, pointing a gun at us.
"Pardon! I just miss my mother, so we gathered here!" Roland said while holding his mother's hand.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, out of nowhere, the soldier shoots Roland in the chest. We're all shocked, and his mother is in tears. Thena can't do anything, and the bleeding is rapid. Roland's last words are "I love you, mom. I'm glad I'll never die from a zombie bite." His mother is crying and furious at the soldier. Suddenly, she grabs her metal rod and tries to strike the soldier in the head, but he shoots her too, causing her to die. We can't do anything; he has a gun. Zombies are approaching now, and we have to let go. But suddenly, Louis throws a metal rod at the soldier, hitting him exactly in the eye. The soldier falls down, screaming and dying. The zombies are here, eating the dead bodies, and we decide to run to the women's site for Maggie, Akira, and Lilac, but some soldiers start chasing us.
