Nai dragged Zo to a corner. "What do you think you are doing?"
"I was just giving everyone a treat," Zo answered, secretly feeling happy that not only was Nai talking to him, but also holding his hand.
It had been long since Nai had talked to him like this. Even while staying under the same roof, Nai barely spoke to him. If he ever tried to make conversation, Nai would either not participate at all or would end the whole conversation in just a few words.
Nai hadn't noticed that he still holding Zo. "Treat? For what purpose?"
"Because we could invite them all to our wedding and~"
"Are you seriously out of your mind, Young Master Zo?" Nai asked letting go of his hand.
"What happened?" Zo's smile vanished seeing Nai being angry.
"Why would you even treat these people? They didn't even know that I was married!"
"You didn't want them to know that you are married?"
"No!"
Alarms started blurring inside Zo's head. So many questions appeared in his head as to why Nai didn't want those colleagues to know that he was married and the question that scared him was that if Nai had someone he was interested in, among those colleagues.
"Why?" He asked.
"Because I don't want to make a fool out of everyone!" Nai replied making Zo freeze. "There are less than ten months and you~"
"Nai, are you seriously counting days?" Zo questioned feeling hurt.
It had been over two months since they got married. In about ten months, Nai would ask for a divorce from him. The mere thought left him distraught.
"Yes. I am." Nai said avoiding Zo's gaze. "So what?"
Nai's words sliced Zo's heart like a knife. He couldn't speak. He just stared at Nai with an unreadable expression.
"Anyway, what I wanted to say was, stop doing things like this. Stop showing up in front of my colleagues and telling them that I am married to you."
"What is that supposed to mean, Nai? Is it that shameful to be married to me?" Zo suppressed his overwhelming fear of not being able to make their marriage work.
"This is a fake marriage, Young Master Zo! Fake! The marriage was fake, the vows taken were fake!"
"Neither is this marriage fake nor are the vows we took fake, Nai!"
Nai ground his teeth. "First Young Master, both you and I know that our marriage is not going to work. So, wouldn't it be better if both respect each other's boundaries and stay out of each other's life till this whole marriage thing is over?"
"What makes you think that our marriage won't work, Nai?" Zo held Nai's hand. "We can make it work. We can make it work as long as we try. I am confident that we can."
"What kind of stunt are you trying to pull here, Young Master Zo?" Nai forcefully pulled his hand away from Zo's grip. "Whatever it is that you want, I have no interest in it. I have no interest in your money, your status, or whatever this marriage could possibly offer me. I have no interest in you. So, please, get this over with!"
Nai didn't want to get his hopes high about this marriage. He knew that this was just a marriage of convenience and that Zo was most probably put in a position where he couldn't back out from it.
Earlier, when he saw Zo interacting with his colleagues, he did see a few of his female colleagues trying to flirt with Zo. He wanted to stride over and claim Zo as his husband. But he stopped himself from doing so as he recalled how Zo had said that he felt disgusted to be intimate with a guy.
Since his husband preferred women over a guy like him, there was pretty much nothing he could do by just claiming that Zo was his husband, other than making himself look like a delusional clown in front of everyone.
"Can you stop being so stubborn, Nai?" Zo felt helpless. He really couldn't understand how his husband's thought process worked.
"I am not being stubborn. I am just being realistic," Nai insisted. "I don't like how you always invade my space. I need you to stop. I need you to stop acting like you are trying to court me. I need you to stop making yourself look like you are in love with me. It's annoying."
He lied. He never found any of it annoying. He was just afraid. Afraid that all these might just be an illusion and that he would end up getting his heart broken over a marriage that might hold zero or less value to Zo and his family.
He knew that the difference between him and his husband was huge. If Zo one day decided to end all these and end their marriage, there would be nothing he could do to stop him. He would be left alone, shattered.
Nai was only protecting himself by pushing Zo away. He could say without a doubt that he might end up giving his heart to Zo if he kept doing things to court him. He didn't know what Zo's intentions in doing all those romantic things were. He was scared to even dwell on the topic for long.
He didn't want himself to get entangled with Zo, who might never reciprocate his feelings.
Zo grew silent. He had never courted anyone before. This was his first time courting someone and he took all the help he could receive, from his family, friends, or from the random internet user who had a suggestion that he could use.
He didn't mind the amount of work, time, or money he had to spend to woo his husband. He was willing to empty his pocket as long as the money spent could buy him his husband's love and an everlasting marriage.
"And yes, stop sending me those flowers," Nai added. He had been receiving flowers every day in the office and he knew that those flowers were being sent by his husband because of the little handwritten notes attached to the bouquet.
"Why? You don't like roses? But they told me that you like roses."
"I don't know who told you all that. I don't like roses. I don't like flowers as a whole. They make the whole place stink with their smell." Nai scrunched his nose showing how much he disliked the smell.
"Oh?"
"I am not some pretty little girl whom you should send flowers to daily."
"But you are pretty."
"What?" Nai glared venomously at his husband.
"I mean, you are both pretty and handsome," Zo tried smiling but the anger in his husband's face was not leaving at all.
Nai sneered. "Young Master is really good with words, no?" He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. "I think you should get going." He pulled out his phone. "I am leaving too." He waied and left while disconnecting the phone.
"You were too harsh on him" Aum, who had seen and heard the whole conversation commented.
"Stay out of this, Aum. It's none of your business," Nai went ahead with his work.
Aum's face was decorated with a sly smirk as his gaze landed on Zo who was not standing far from him.
