"Nai," Nai turned around and spotted his father standing not far from him.
"Dad? Why are you still up?" He asked.
"It's not every day that we four get together. Just thought that we could sit together and chat for a bit more," Mike said, referring to his wife and Aum's parents.
"Oh?" Nai nodded.
"By the way, where are you going? Didn't you go to bed early?"
"I did, but I couldn't sleep, Dad."
"You must have been waiting for your boyfriend to come back," Mike teasingly smiled.
Nai blinked guiltily, contemplating if he was in the wrong for lying to his parents about Zo.
"I gave your boyfriend a change of dress na. Don't worry we don't mind having him sleepover." Mike said upon noticing the look on his son's face.
"Dad, there's something I have to tell you guys." Nai pressed his lips together.
"You sound really serious." Mike sensed his son's feelings. "Follow me. the rest of them are in the living room."
Nai wordlessly followed his father, mentally preparing a script to recite to his parents. He was greeted with a jolly atmosphere.
"Nai, son, come join us," Dona said as soon as she spotted Nai.
"Nai has something serious to tell us," Mike sat next to his wife and wrapped his hand around her shoulder, preparing to listen to what his son had to say.
Nai stood before his parents, his heart pounding in his chest. He could feel their eyes on him. "Mom, Dad," He began, his voice trembling slightly, "there's something I need to tell you about Zo."
Jib's expression tightened with worry. "What is it, Nai? You're scaring me." Her son rarely acted like this. It was really concerning for her
Nai took a deep breath, feeling the weight of his words before he spoke them. "Zo isn't just my boyfriend. He's... he's my husband."
Dona's face went pale, and Jib's eyes widened in shock. "Your husband?" she repeated, incredulous. "What do you mean, husband?"
Nai nodded, his voice strained. "We got married. It was... a flash wedding. It wasn't supposed to happen, but it did."
Jib shook her head, trying to understand. "Nai, what are you talking about? How could you just... get married like that?"
Nai swallowed hard, knowing he owed them the whole story. "I was the wedding planner for Zo's wedding. Everything was set—the venue, the guests, the press. But then, at the last minute, the bride ran away. She just disappeared."
The two pairs of parents exchanged glances, still bewildered.
Nai continued, the words spilling out in a rush. "Zo's family is incredibly wealthy. Their reputation is everything to them. If the wedding had fallen through, it would have been a disaster for them as well as our company. We had been the subject of envy ever since we were contracted to do this wedding. If it fell through, it would have been disastrous for us."
He didn't dare pause, "We had been working on this project for over a year. Almost everyone in our company had worked so hard for this. When we were told to find another bride, we did our best to find one but couldn't in the end, P' Ani and the other persuaded me to that I take the bride's place. So, I stepped in and married him to save the wedding."
Jib's hand flew to her mouth, her voice trembling with disbelief. "Nai, marriage isn't something you can just~"
"I know," Nai interrupted, his voice cracking. "I know it was crazy, but I didn't see any other way out. I thought... maybe we could make it work somehow."
Mike's expression turned from shock to anger. "And now what? You're married to a man who was supposed to marry someone else? How could you let this happen?"
Nai could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on him. "I didn't have a choice," he whispered. "I thought I could handle it, that we could figure things out. But... on our wedding night, Zo told me something. He said that he's only ever been attracted to women. He... he admitted that the idea of being intimate with another man disgusts him."
The room fell into a stunned silence. Jib's eyes welled with tears, and Mike's anger seemed to deflate into disbelief.
"You're telling us that you're married to a man who can't even see you as a partner?" Mike asked, his voice filled with disbelief and frustration.
Nai nodded, feeling his heart break all over again as he confessed the truth. "He was honest with me. He didn't want to lie, but it still hurt."
Dona reached out, placing a trembling hand on his arm. "Oh, Nai... why didn't you tell us sooner? Why did you try to carry this burden alone?"
Tears spilled down Nai's cheeks as he shook his head. "I didn't want to worry you. I thought I could fix it, but I don't know what to do now. I'm trapped in this marriage, and I don't know how to get out."
His father sighed, his anger fading into concern. "Nai, you're our son. We'll figure this out together. You don't have to go through this alone."
Nai nodded, grateful for their support, but the weight of his situation still pressed heavily on him. He had married Zo to save his business, but in doing so, he had trapped himself in a marriage that was never meant to be.
"Now that things are like this, what do you plan to do, son?" Lam, Aum's father, asked.
Nai took a deep breath, struggling to keep his voice steady. "I feel that we need to end this marriage."
"End it? Have you thought it through, son?" Mike wasn't really happy to hear the news.
Nai's voice was firm, though it trembled with emotion. "Yes, Dad. He had admitted he was not attracted to me, and he expressed disgust at the idea of being intimate with another man. I can't live like this. I can't be in a marriage of convenience."
"Have you discussed it with Zo?" Mike probed.
"I did. In fact, I told his family as well. Since they are concerned about their reputation, I offered to postpone the divorce for a year."
"How did they react?"
"They weren't expecting me to bring up the divorce," Nai said recalling the colorful expressions on his in-laws' faces when he announced that he wanted to get a divorce.
"Forget his family, Nai. Tell us how Zo reacted. Did he agree?" Dona asked nervously.
Nai shook his head.
"Thank god," She patted her chest.
"Aunt Dona, I~"
"I know, son. He said this he said that. You have so many excuses."
"Aunt, it's not excuses~"
"Nai, years ago when your father was eyeing my best friend here," She held Jib's hand. "she didn't understand a thing. I had to sit down and tell her that the tall guy she had a crush on was interested in her as well. She was clueless till then and you my dear son had inherited the level of stupidity when it comes to relationships from your mom."
"I am not stupid! You are the stupid one," Jib bickered childishly.
"Really? Maybe that's why you remained single even after him hitting on you for almost five years. That's the edge of stupidity not to realize that he was flirting with you all the time." Dona retorted.
"Ladies, ladies! We are talking about Nai here. Stop sidetracking like this," Lam quickly grabbed their attention back to the topic.
