"Remember when we went to summer camp together?"

Y/N POV:

I continued stapling as soon as everyone joined, and together we taped and stapled the newspapers and old curtains to make the shed unrecognizable, ensuring we covered every inch of the place.

Jonathan brought Will into the shed, and everyone else left, leaving only me, Arlo, Mike, Joyce, Jonathan, Dad, Mom, and Hopper inside. Jonathan tied Will to the chair and stepped back, his expression heavy with concern.

"All right," Hopper whispered. "Are you ready?"

"Yeah," Joyce nodded.

My mom poured some chemical onto the cotton and brought it close to Will's nose. Suddenly, as Will woke up and gasped, he looked around, squinting at the bright lights, and then realized he was tied to the chair.

"What's going on? Why am I tied up?" he demanded, attempting to break free from his restraints.

Joyce walked over, her voice calm and soothing. "Will, we just want to talk to you. We're not going to hurt you."

"Where am I?" Will asked, ignoring Joyce's reassurance.

Hopper stepped in, showing Will the drawing of the Shadow Monster. "Do you recognize this?" he inquired, but Will shook his head in confusion. Hopper repeated his question, but Will remained uncertain.

"We want to help you, Will. But to do that, we need to understand how to defeat it," Joyce said calmly.

"Why am I tied up?" Will's frustration boiled over, his cries turning into desperate screams as he struggled against his restraints. "Let me go! Let me go!" The lights flickered erratically as Will's panic intensified.

My dad swiftly reached out to restrain Will, trying to calm him down as he thrashed about. Eventually, Will's resistance waned, and the lights stabilized as he realized he couldn't break free from the restraints.

We all remained in silence and Joyce sat back on another chair. "Do you know what March 22nd is?" She questioned as Will remained silent. "It's your birthday. Your birthday. When you turned eight, I gave you that huge box of crayons. Do you remember that? It had 120 colours. And all your friends they got you Star Wars toys, but all you wanted to do was draw with your new colours. And you drew the big spaceship, but it wasn't from a movie. It was your spaceship. A rainbow ship you called it. And you must have used every colour in the box. I took that with me to Melvand's and I out it up and I told everyone who came in, my son drew this. And you were so embarrassed. But I was so proud. I was so, so proud." Joyce finished with trembling lips.

"Do you remember the day dad left?" Jonathan asked from behind Joyce, he walked over and bent down next to Will. "We stayed up all night building Castle Byers, just the way you drew it. And it took so long, because you were so bad at hammering. You missed the nail every time. And then it started raining, but we stayed out there anyway. We were both sick for like a week after that. But we just had to finish it didn't we? We just had to."
