CHAPTER 28

After knocking once or twice, he heard Matteo from the other side of the door, a bit of shuffling and then the door was opened.

    "Boss?"
Matteo asked in surprise.

    "Can I come in?"
He asked Matteo who first shook his head before realizing himself and then nodded hastily.

     "Sorry"
He murmured before opening the door while Aries nodded and walked in.

    "Please take a sit, what can I offer you?"
Matteo asked with a slight shake to his voice.

     "Siediti fratello"
(Sit Brother)
Aries instructed, pointing towards the sit opposite him, watching as Matteo suddenly rubbed his hands on his pants before taking a sit.

     "Do you remember the first time we set eyes on Sephora?"
Aries suddenly asked, getting a soft smile from Matteo who nodded slowly.

     "Back then I would have done anything just to have her waking up and sleeping by my side, I was more than willing to do everything in my power to make her my queen and equal, my other half si?"
He stopped and stared into the distance.

    "Finally I have her sleeping under my roof yet it seems like she's so far away from me"
He finished before looking towards Matteo who seemed to be in his own world.

     "How did you do it?"
Aries asked Matteo who scrunched his face in confusion.

    "You've Loved Ella since the very day you stepped feet in my home, you've watched her be in two different relationships, the last one almost taken her life yet you've kept your feelings to yourself, stood in as an elder brother in my absence, stood in as an emotional support system when she would cry about her feelings for other people and even taken her to her dates all the while keeping your emotions in tight check.

I have watched you act ignorant, invisible and totally neutral when it comes to Ella and all of this with no expectations in return.

How? "

    "You literally threatened me with a gun boss"
Matteo commented with a chuckle.

      "It never stopped you in the past"
Aries spoke, referring to other times he would threaten to shoot him yet he never did and Matteo continued to do whatever it was.

      "I remind myself of the life that I chose to live and how impossible a happily ever after truly is"
He began, rubbing his face in frustration.

     "Her last relationship was a clear indication of all the reasons as to why I would be wrong for Ella.

Dating Maxwell was like making herself a walking target you know?.

The continous threats to her life, the never ending attacks, the trolling, the constant need to fight for a relationship with someone who might not be there if things ever goes south.

I saw everything boss and respectfully, no love is enough to make me risk loosing her for life.

I'd rather be on the sidelines, watching her find the happiness she truly deserves all the while cheering her on.

I'm not interested in finding out what a life without Ella looks or feels like.
