"Why not recover your sight with Izanami?", Karin asked.
"The use of Izanami usually costs a Sharingan wielder their sight.", Shisui said. Akira groaned in frustration where she sat behind Tama, playing with her hair. They had been going back and forth all morning about why Tama's sight could be restored. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to be of substance.
"Then get Mizubana-sama to fix them, or even Tsunade-sama. Why won't you?", Karin countered. Shisui sighed, it wasn't so simple. They had to understand that.
"That's impossible. These eyes are beyond repare.", Tama said, not bothering to provide an explanation. It would be futile.
"Why not?", Akira finally asked.
"For the same reason why I'm dying."
They all fell silent at Tama's words. She had said it softly, gently, but the directness of her words didn't soften the blow one bit.
On her end, Tama was hurt. She wanted this for so long, it seemed like an impossible wish at some point. Death, the sweet, gentle release of death. It was all she wanted since the day she finally joined Anbu. Yet here she was, wondering why the thought of it only pained her now. Was it because she was finally close to her goal of dealing with Danzō? Was it because she was surrounded by a loving family that she put all her effort into reviving? Was it because she set the Uchiha clan aside to put the Uzumaki clan first? Or that she made war refugees into a clan with good standing while her own was dead and gone?
"Tama-san?"
Her gaze flickered in response, switching from thoughtful to attentive. She heard him sigh.
"You spaced out. Karin-chan and Akira-san left to watch the next match.", he said. She blinked, a light blush tinting her cheeks. Then, she brought a hand to feel her hair, it felt like Akira had made a mess of it.
"How do I look?", she asked. Shisu grinned as she took her hands to distract her from that. She couldn't possibly be worried about her hair at a time like this. Working hard to ignore the biting cold temperature of her skin, he urged her to stand up with a gentle tug.
"You look great.", he whispered as he pulled her into a tight hug from behind. She took a while to relax and lean back into his chest, and they stood in silence for a while longer, still. There was a warm ray of sunshine that shone through the window nearby. It was really comforting to just stand and enjoy it.
"You know...", Shisui began softly, breaking the slince. Tama hummed in response. "I'd give everything to live like this everyday."
Tama's hands found perchance on his lower arms that were wrapped around her snugly, and she smiled the shadow of a smile. Without a proper response, all she did was plant a soft kiss on his jaw, causing him to sigh in contentment.
"Let's take a walk.", he said. She immediately broke free of his hold with a nod of agreement, took her cloak and wore it, and went to wait for him by the door. He watched, stunned at how quickly she did everything. It was like they weren't cuddling a mere moment ago. If she did that on purpose then her ccruelty knew no bounds. Shaking his head, Shisui headed for the door and ushered her out.
They were barely out the door when she said, "Let's get some Ayu."
Shisui was immediately on board. Ayu was delicious, and for the longest time they had been eating bland meals. Maybe it was time to change things up, for everyone, that is. Setting that thought aside, Shisui realised that he had fallen behind, and Tama was patiently waiting for him outside.
Since their return, she had opted to not attend the Chūnin exams, and spent most of her time getting up to all sorts of things. Today, her chose to keep her company, and was keen to see what her life was like outside of the clans and their matters.
