From May 2-8, 1999, a large tornado outbreak took place across much of the central and parts of the eastern United States as well as southern Canada. There were 152 tornadoes that touched down in those areas. More than half of those storms occurred on May 3 and May 4. Oklahoma experienced its largest tornado outbreak on record with 70 confirmed tornadoes. The most notable of these tornadoes was an EF5 that struck Bridge Creek and Moore, Oklahoma on May 3rd. The tornado killed 36 people. 50 people died during the outbreak.
