On April 9-11, 1947, there was an outbreak that generated at least 17 possibly more tornadoes. On April 9, a series of related tornadoes spawned by a single supercell dubbed the Glazier-Higgins-Woodward tornadoes swept through the United States of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. The Glazier-Higgins-Woodard tornado traveled 98 miles from Texas to Oklahoma. It was nearly 2 miles in with often compared to the Tri-State tornado. It was rated an EF5 and killed 169 people.
