On March 2, 2012, there was an EF4 tornado that first touched down on the south side of Fredericksburg. It then headed towards New Pekin, then Henryville, then Marysville. It reached Paynesville at 3:35pm., it crossed the Ohio River into Kentucky. In under an hour, the tornado carved out a 49 miles track through small towns, forests and farmland. The tornado killed 11 people. The tornado hit Henryville Elementary School & Henryville Jr & Sr High School.
