Annaka POV
once we got back, we had to go through the license ceremony thing. I wasn't really paying attention though. I was basically just looking at the hunters license. 'If I hadn't ran away, they wouldn't be dead. If I had just been there. It wouldn't-'
"Hey," killua whispered next to me, snapping me out of my thoughts. "You okay?"
I just nodded, I didn't look at him, didn't say a word, I just nodded. I could feel Killua staring at me, probably not believing me at all. Eventually he just nodded, dropping the subject.
After the ceremony thing was over, we all walked out. We were walking away, but the Chairman stopped me.
"Annaka can I talk to you," he asked, I nodded.
"You guys go ahead without me," I said to my friends. They went and sat on a bench instead.
"Follow me," the Chairman, well my grandpa said. I nodded and followed him. He took me to a different bench, out of ear shot of my friends or anyone. "I wanted to talk to you about the whole grandpa thing."
"Okay," I replied. "What about it?"
"What all did your dad say about me?" he asked.
"He said you left because you didn't agree with him beating his kids basically." I replied
"I didn't leave because of that," he said. "Well I don't agree with the beating kids part, but I didn't know about that until you did the hunter exam, I overheard you talking about it. But anyways, I left before any of you guys were born. I just didn't want to be an assassin."
"Yea you said that," I said.
"You almost killed your dad," he said.
"Yea just repaying the favor," I joked. "He killed them." Then I got a call, "S-sorry can I take this really quick?"
"Of course," he replied.

I answered the call, "Annaka!"
"Mom?"
"You almost killed your dad?!"
"M-maybe."
"Why?!"
"because he killed them"
The other end of the phone was silent. "Why didn't you stop him?"
"I wasn't here, I would've if I was here, I'm so sorry."
"It's all my fault, he killed them because I left."
"Are you still going to come visit?"
"What?! No! You really think I'd come back after that? Fuck no."
"Understandable but your dad asked.''
"Your with him right now?"
"Yes, do you want to talk to him."
"Tell him to fuck off. You too, fuck you too."
I hung up, she called again.
"What," I said.
"Why did you say that? I didn't do anything."
"what? your literally with him right now and he KILLED your KIDS."
"He did it in a blind rage."
"But he still killed them. Even if be was in a blind rage."
The other end went silent. "And your just going to sit there and baby him aren't you, because that's what you always do. You know I wouldn't be surprised if you actually were there, and you just let it happen. You always choose him, over your own kids. Always, never have you EVER picked your kids over him. And even when he FUCKING KILLED your KIDS you still pick him over it. Wow. I should've expected that to be honest. Can I talk to dad?"
"Really? I-i mean okay." The line went silent for a moment before dad said, "Hello?"
"I hope you die, and die a gruesome death. If no one had been there to pull me off of you, you would've been dead. I hate you so much. But whyd you let me hit you? You could've fought back. Yet you didn't. Why?"
"I deserved it."
"You deserve more than just that."
I hung up and walked back up to the Chairman.
