FRIENDS WITH THE GIRLS

HABEEBA'S POV:
Honestly speaking, I feel being friends with the girls sometimes is like eating at a table,all you have to do is select the right food to eat at the right time . It's also like having the best outfits to wear at any called occasion. Like i said it's what I think not what others think .

Heard you guys had lots of fun last week I said to Bahija who was busy scribbling on a paper

Yeah The twins came to our house for some extra lessons on maths and English but  let's say english to be precise .

Hmmm came out my short reply as I took out a note and started reading . Our exams were around the corner and we were to be loaded with lots and lots of questions.

Anybody cares for a sandwich the twins asking coming back from the cafeteria with  6 sandwiches in a transparent white nylon.

No thanks we both chorused

Ok then they replied back sitting down as they both continued their chit chats.

Suddenly,Yusrah walked in . This time around she looked really bad . She had eye bags underneath her eyes , puffy cheeks and a running nose to say. I only looked once at her before focusing back on my book

May I sit here she said to Bahija whom only nodded her head not sparing her a glance

About last week Friday..... She began

Look, Yusrah I get it. Honestly I do I believe there's this problem you have with me being friends with Maimuna but like I say and always say this is a school , a place to learn and interact with one another . I mean she said stopping this time to look at Yusrah whom was now sitted close to her before continuing

What i mean to say is we all are here for one purpose to learn right. Can we just tolerate one another to learn from one another?. Thank you She said before standing up to walk towards the washroom to wash her face.

I looked up to get a view of everyone's reaction, Munira as usual was good with expressions so I couldn't tell what was on her mind at the moment as for Maimuna it was pretty obvious that she felt bad she was just trying hard to mask the feeling up . Yusrah on the other hand was furiously tapping her nails on the desk I guess she had a lot to make up for her mistakes but was having a hard time doing so .

Ermmm I said clearing my throat to ease the awkward moment before reading out loud what I was reading from my note.

Can you please be a little bit quiet ?Munira said with a mouth full of sandwich.

I only smiled and lessened my voice making it seem more like a whisper.

Sure bye Maimuna said waving to a fellow classmate of ours.

On our way towards the gate we met Yusrah walking towards us from afar. She seemed to be in a hurry because she was walking pretty fast that she almost tripped on a stone on her way towards approaching us.

Easy there! Maimuna said quickly grabbing a hold of her shoulder

Thank you she replied back

You really are in a rush ,Going somewhere I asked Yusrah that was now heavily panting in our presence

I couldn't get to apologize to you in class earlier,I wanted to tommorrow right before the assembly but then i later had a change of mind which is why I decided to quickly walk up to you and apologize for all the hurtful things I have done to you She said confessing.

It's ok Maimuna said

I mean such things  happen especially when you find yourself in the company of girls within our age range, there's definitely alot of competition and envy that happens but please don't let it bother you ok . I mean we are just 6_ 8 days short from our first senior high exams

I promise I won't let it repeat itself again Yusrah said

Maimuna drew her into a hug and for a moment she was stiff budging the hug before she finally gave in and wrapped her arms around her in a comforting manner .

I looked at the both and smiled satisfyingly.

Munira I heard Yusrah say

I turned only to find Munira looking at Yusrah with an unpleasant look on her face

I know what's with the whole face Yusrah added

It's because of my character right.

You know what Yusrah ,the thing is I really can't stand double faced people like you . You say you like someone but you don't I wonder if you really like me as a friend too or just for I dunno maybe something else.. Munira said

No.. no trust me I never would and never shall . I like you more like a friend. You know the reasons why things were this way with Maimuna was because Bahija and I have been friends for like forever more like family now so I felt she was gradually replacing my existence in Bahija's life Yusrah said emotionally.

But you should.......

Munira Maimuna said cutting her off

It's okay since Yusrah apologized already . I think it's high time we let bygones be bygones besides we all make mistakes isn't it ? She said

Munira only sighed then walked out on us leaving me , Maimuna and Yusrah behind.

I probably should get going besides we were on our way towards the gate when you came Maimuna said

Yeah we were,my dad will be so mad at me for taking time to come out I said looking at the wristwatch on my left hand.

Well done it's settled shall we head back towards the gate ? Bahija is also in the car waiting for me . I only told her I was going to pick a note I left in my desk Yusrah said

Of course we both chorused walking together towards the gate.

Yusrah and Maimuna walked hand in hand as they laughed over something

One thing I learnt so far in my senior high school was that jealousy and competition will always be a barrier between you, your friends and the goals you set unto yourself . What matters is how you chose to make use of them either the good or vice versa
