BAHIJA'S POV:
I spent my holiday, reading enormously to lessen the read load on my head before the due date to our exams.
"Hijs you are in Grade 11,you have almost 9_10 months before entering Grade 12. Why are you in a rush?" mom asked searching for Fawzan's pencil in his bag.
"Fawzan" she called out and the little boy came running across the living room.
"Come sit let's do your homework"
"Mom I know it's pretty far but I don't know what lies ahead of me in preparation to my final exams. Success School is full of surprises mom and I don't want to be part of those giving a shocking surprise of their life" I said flipping through the pages of my literature note
"Decimal numbers hmmm..."mom read out loud looking at the textbook
"Baby can you do this?"She asked Fawzan who was now chewing the eraser of the pencil.
He shaked his head indicating a no and mom said "It's alright we will do it together but next time you have to be able to do it alone ok"
"Uhmmm" he said nodding his head in approval.
Mom continued to tutor Fawzan on his homework while I began to feel sleepy,so I left Dad's sturdy room and went straight to our room where I kept the note on my beside table.
I heard someone sniffing so I stopped in my tracks and walked towards the part I heard the sound. Upon reaching the end of the bunki bent down and peeped. It was Aamna crying profusely.
"Aunty Hijab"She said clearing her throat as she wiped her tears away
"And what are you doing here?"I asked her .
"It's nothing I am just not feeling fine"she said clearly lying to me
"Liar!"I said reaching my hand unto hers before dragging her out of her little hideout.
"There you go "I said.
" Teemah and I fought today" she said sitting on the down part of the bunk bed.
"What's the reason for that?" I asked Aamna who looked up at me before speaking.
"I made an attempt to answer a question in class but failed, everyone laughed at me in class especially Teemah who later walked up to me after class wanting to speak to me but only ended up laughing hard" She said wiping the tears falling from her eyes.
"I called her names and we broke into a fight, she even twisted my hand when I dragged her hair in class" she added , rubbing the spot her hand hurts .
"You shouldn't have fought with Teemah in the first place Aamna, you could have just told her how hurt you felt with her behavior" I said
"She said it was a joke but ended up laughing again at me ....."
"Aamna, listen people have a way of reacting to things in ways you can't imagine , we just happen to judge them based on the circumstances we find ourselves in and also Aamna your friend Teemah isn't the type to make a joke out of you and you know that" I said looking at her , getting a reaction from her
"But she....."
"She owes you an apology same goes for you too .Ok?" I said interrupting her statement
"Aunty Bahija you are doing this again. Cutting me off midway my statement" she said whining.
I raised a brow arch waiting to get a response from her
"Fine , I will do just as you said"she said accepting defeat.
A figure walked in with a smile on her face
"Mom you are here ?" I said looking at the just opened door where she stood .
.I wanted calling you out for lunch so I happened to overhear your conversation with your little sister" She said looking at Aamna who ducked her head down , playing with the hem of her skirt.
"Actually mom I wanted ....."
"You wanted to tell me about your fight with Teemah right"she asked and I nodded my head in agreement.
"What stopped you from telling me?. When you knew I could have heard of it somewhere else?" Mom asked
Aamna was speechless but rather spoke.
"I was scared I would be shouted upon , that's why I didn't speak to you about it" She said honestly.
"Lying never saves you from a situation no matter how small it's,anyway I am glad you have accepted your mistake and known what to do best". Mom said smiling as she rubs Aamna's hair gently causing her scarf to fall unto her shoulders.
"We need to plait this hair,Right Aamna " Mom said
"I know what to do,let me get the comb and hair cream " she said standing up to get the items.
I smiled at the duo .
What could I have done without my parents in this world ? I thought before stepping out of the room making my way towards the kitchen to grab my lunch
