episode two ; tyson plays
with fire

BEATRICE STARED AT the camp getting attacked. her heart sunk. two bulls attacking her home. and not just regular bulls — bronze bulls the size of elephants. that wasn't even the worst part. naturally they had to breathe fire, too.

"no," beatrice mumbled. she worried about her siblings. most of them weren't fighters like her. they didn't inherit that trait like she did.

beatrice then looked at the pine tree. the bulls shouldn't have been able to get through. the camp's magic boundaries didn't allow monsters to cross past thalia's tree.

one of the heroes shouted, "boarder patrol, to me!" a girl's voice — gruff and familiar.

"it's clarisse." beatrice said. "come on, we have to help her." after she said that, she ran up the hill while unclasping her bracelet. she didn't bother to wait for annabeth and percy.

"clarisse!" beatrice yelled, now gripping onto her pink dagger. she waved her hand around to get her attention, but the girl didn't hear her.

beatrice watched as clarisse try and get her patrol into a phalanx formation. unfortunately, clarisse could only muster six campers. the other four were still running around with their helmets on fire. annabeth ran toward them, trying to help. she taunted one of the bulls into chasing her, then turned invisible, completely confusing the monster. the other bull charged clarisse's line. beatrice ran toward clarisse.

"la rue!" beatrice shouted. she finally made it up the hill and caught her friends attention. "look out!"

the bull moved deadly fast for something so big. it's metal hide gleamed in the sun. it had fist sized rubies for eyes, and horns for polished silver. when it opened its hinged mouth, a column of white-hot flame blasted out.

"hold the line!" clarisse ordered her warriors then shouted at beatrice. "bea, stay back!"

beatrice stopped in her tracks. she knew she couldn't argue with her. whatever else you could say about clarisse, she was brave. she was a big girl with cruel eyes like her father's. she looked like she was born to wear greek battle armor, but beatrice didn't see how she could stand against that bull's charge.

unfortunately, at that moment, the other bull lost interest in finding annabeth. it turned, wheeling around behind clarisse on her unprotected side.
