episode three ; everybody hates me
but the horse

BEATRICE STIRRED before the sun had risen, the dim light of dawn filtering through the windows of her cabin. she blinked a few times, taking in the stillness of the morning. it was the day. the quest to save artemis, the one she and her friends would leave for in just a few hours. she could feel the weight of the day ahead resting on her shoulders, but there was also an underlying excitement—the thrill of the unknown.

she slipped out of bed, careful not to wake any of her siblings, and went straight to her vanity. there, she began her routine—an act of normalcy amidst the chaos of her world. she applied her makeup with practiced precision, drawing lines of confidence in every stroke. after that, she dressed herself in a white spaghetti strap tank top, layering it with a dark blue western button-up, leaving it untucked for now. she slid into her straight-legged blue jeans and tugged on a pair of black heeled boots that added just enough height to make her feel grounded yet powerful. the final touch was her brown leather jacket—well-worn, but sturdy, a reminder of countless adventures.

beatrice tucked her shirt into her jeans, fastening a beat around her waist, one that also held the scabbard for her sword. venus, her trusted dagger, remained on her wrist as a bracelet, as always. she took one last look at her reflection, brushing a hand through her hair, before turning to her packed bag, making sure everything was there—extra clothes, supplies, and anything she might need on the quest. satisfied, she hoisted the bag over her shoulder.

just as she was about to head out the door, a soft voice called her name. "bea?"

she turned to see silena standing by the doorway, still wrapped in her blankets. the girl's eyes were heavy with sleep, but there was a hint of worry behind them. "you're leaving already?"

"yeah, it's time," beatrice replied, her voice soft as she set down her bag and walked over to her.

silena stepped forward and wrapped her arms around beatrice's waist, hugging her tightly. "be careful, okay? and i'll make sure the cabin behaves while you're gone. no one's going to mess things up."

beatrice smiled warmly, her heart swelling with affection for her sister. she bent down slightly to kiss the top of silena's head, as she always did. "i know you will. thanks, lena."

silena pulled back, offering a small smile, but it was clear she didn't want to say goodbye. neither did beatrice. with a final squeeze, beatrice grabbed her bag again and left the aphrodite cabin, her boots clicking softly on the floor as she walked.
