It all started in a hospital. With a
woman, the wife of a famous hero, giving birth.Screams of pain could be heard echoing throughout the hospital as the woman struggled in her labors, with doctors and nurses trying to ease her pain and help her through her birth.
"Come on, Ms. Todoroki, just a little bit further, just a few more pushes. It will be over soon." A nurse said, when suddenly...
Crying. A baby crying. You were born.
The doctors swiftly cut the umbilical cord and wrapped you around in a clean towel, before handing you to your mother. "It's a boy."
One of the nurses frowned, seeing the father's absence, not only in the room but in the hospital. "Did... you and your husband decide on the boy's name?" The nurse asked
The woman, named Rei Todoroki, smiled at her newborn child, kissing it on the forehead "Y/N. Y/N Tododoki." Rei said, her voice was weak, exhausted from the birth.
The nurse nodded, writing down the name on the birth certificate.
A few days later
Rei Todoroki was fairly quickly discharged from the hospital and allowed to go back home with her child. Enji Todoroki, your father, was thrilled to see his second son, although for all the wrong reasons. Enji Todoroki, also known as Endeavor, the #2 Hero in Japan, had an obsession. He was obsessed with becoming the #1 Hero, as well as creating a child with the perfect quirk, quirks being the name of the powers that Heroes and Villains possessed.
Enji had a fire-based quirk, a powerful one at that, while your mother had an ice-based quirk. Enji had hoped that, by marrying her, it would produce a child with both abilities. But so far, that plan was a failure. His first son, Toya Todoroki had a powerful fire quirk, one so powerful it far surpassed Endeavor's own, but it had a downside, Toya had little to no resistance to his own flames, making him susceptible to burns.
And you. You showed no signs of even having a quirk at all. No signs of fire or ice. Of course, it was possible for you to have a quirk completely unrelated to either of your parents, but you showed no signs of that either. You were, for all intents and purposes, quirkless. 80% of the world's population had some form of power. And you had none.
When you reached the age of four and it was in fact confirmed by a doctor that you had no quirk and likely will never develop one, your father's face never exhibited pride or joy ever again when seeing you. To him, you were his greatest failure. Toya may have been a failure in his initial plan, but he at least showed SOME promise. You did not. You were your father's biggest shame and regret. And throughout your life, he had largely ignored your existence, focusing fully on Toya and your younger sister, Fuyumi.
Your mother, however, tended to focus on you the most. While you were your father's greatest disappointment, you were your mother's greatest treasure. She loved and cared for you deeply... but that wasn't enough. It would never be enough.
You despised him. Despised him for hating you. You wanted to prove him wrong. To prove yourself as worthy of his time, of his love. To prove that you weren't a useless failure.
But how? How could you possibly do that without a quirk? Quirks seemed to be the only thing your father cared about, so how could you possibly prove yourself to him without one?
