Chapter 44: (your pov)

As the carriage arrived and a dark figure stepped out, my heart stopped at the sight. Fear gripped me as I wondered if it was the person who had been sending me those ominous warning letters. My breathing became rapid and uneven.

The figure moved slowly, their outline obscured by the shadows. Panic surged through me, and I considered fleeing, but there was nowhere to run. I was trapped in this house, surrounded by shadows only.

Then, the figure stepped into the light, and I saw it was Jungkook. I felt Relieved mixed with confusion as I realized who it was. He smiled at me, but it wasn't a warm smile; it felt more like a smirk, adding to my unease.

Jungkook walked towards the door, His presence filled the room with tension. The loneliness and the dark thoughts were overwhelming, and being around someone, even Jungkook, seemed preferable from this lonely feeling.

As he reached the door and opened it, I made a decision. I needed to be around people, even if it was Jungkook. Gathering my courage, I started to make my way downstairs, my steps were slow as they hesitated at first.

As I reached the bottom of the stairs and stood in front of the door, I saw Jungkook opening it, allowing light to flood into the dark estate. I hurried towards him, my heavy jewelry twinkling and jingling with each step. Without thinking, I wrapped my arms around him in a light hug. He didn't hug me back. Suddenly, he spoke.

Jungkook: What are you doing? What happened? Are you alright?

A realization hit me. What if he was here to take me as bait? No, it couldn't be.

Y/n: Why are you.... Here... So early ?

I suddenly asked him.

Jungkook: I was here to check on you, see how you're doing.

He said, making his way towards the sitting room. He sat down on the sofa and looked at me expectantly. Jungkook looked strikingly handsome in his black corset tuxedo, a sleek and tailored ensemble that accentuated his broad shoulders and lean frame.

The jacket hugged his torso perfectly, emphasizing his sculpted physique. His hair, still slightly damp, fell in tousled waves, some strands lazily brushing against his forehead and framing his piercing eyes.

Jungkook: Can I have a cup of water?

His request snapped me out of my spiraling thoughts. I nodded quickly and hurried to fetch the water, my mind racing. What was he really here for? Could I trust him? These questions lingered as I filled a glass with water.

My mind was filled with negative thoughts, I can't trust him, no. He's horrible, his family is horrible, i shouldn't have came downstairs from my room. I should have stayed there. I didn't realise I was filling water, until it started spilling out of the glass on my hand.

I returned to the sitting room, handing it to him with a trembling hand. Jungkook took the glass and drank slowly, his eyes never leaving mine.

Jungkook: You seem troubled, What's on your mind?

He saw my trembling figure and gently held my arm.

Jungkook: Aaira, do you remember there was once a time when you were a child and we used to play games together?

I fell into deep thinking. When did he play games with Aaira? Aaira never mentioned in her diary that she knew Jungkook before their marriage. He snapped me out of my thoughts.

Jungkook: Let's play a game.

He asked again.

I started to feel uneasy. What if it's one of his games? I'm still thinking, what if I'm going to be his bait this time? But I couldn't say anything. My throat felt dry, and my mind was spinning with fear and confusion.
