Kian's POV
The day had finally arrived - Kian's physical and psychological evaluation. Months had passed since her last one, though it felt even longer with everything that happened. Excitement and nervousness swirled within her. Her body was in prime condition, perhaps even stronger than before. Her wounds had healed, and her shoulder was improving. However, Kian was more terrified of the mental aspect, of whether the therapist would clear her. Hopefully, the files Dr. Davis sent over would work in her favor.
During the weeks of therapy, Kian had made good progress. She felt more comfortable opening up and divulging information. Dr. Davis even recommended writing in a journal as a venting outlet, and surprisingly, it helped a lot. The nightmares had decreased somewhat, too. Madison's accident caused a rough patch, but they were working through it together.
Kian sat on the edge of the bed, brushing away stray strands of hair from Madison's face. The brunette's parted lips emitted small puffs of air as she looked angelic in slumber. She focused on tying and blousing her boots putting the finishing touches on her uniform. Last night, she spent an hour ensuring everything was perfect, from trimming loose threads to centering her silver bar on each collar. Every item was perfectly ironed, and her sleeves were rolled with precision.
The musician had teased Kian about her meticulousness the previous night, but she was known for being a textbook Marine. Perfection was her constant aim, and those under her command looked up to her for it.
Kian turned back to Madison, placing a kiss on the corner of her lips. As she took a step towards the door, the angelic voice stopped her in her tracks.
"I told you to wake me."
Kian turned around with a soft smile, taking in the half-asleep brunette with her pouty lips. Madison propped herself up against the headboard, the duvet pooling at her hips.
"I know, but you looked so peaceful." Kian gave Madison a tender smile as she brushed a stray lock of hair from her face.
"Are you leaving now?"
Kian nodded reluctantly, "Then come give me a proper kiss Marine." A playful glint danced in Madison's eyes as she beckoned Kian closer.
She chuckled softly walking back over, "Yes, ma'am."
Kian chuckled softly, leaning down as Madison threw her arms around the back of her neck, dragging her into a passionate yet tender kiss. As they parted, Madison murmured, "Good luck today. You'll pass with flying colors."
"Oh yeah?" A teasing lilt entered Kian's tone. "You know some woman is going to have to check my wounds during the medical exam."
Despite her sleepy state, Madison's eyes immediately narrowed. "You let her touch you, you die."
"It's her job, babe. She's got to make sure I'm fit and ready to be cleared."
"Tell her to give me a call then. I can give her a whole report on how fit you really are." Her gaze raked over Kian's form brazenly. "And lately, it seems you're always ready."
"Of course, my girlfriend is absolutely stunning. It's hard to keep my hands to myself."
Reaching out, Madison traced the lines of Kian's jaw tenderly. "Seriously though, call me if it gets too much, okay?
"Seriously though, call me if it gets too much, okay?"
I will. But I'll be okay - this is just a formality"
"You're right, they can. But I'm in a better place now to handle it." She leaned in, resting her forehead against the artist's, "I gotta go, see you tonight?"
