Kian's POV

Her eyes opened, blinded by the morning sun. Glancing over at the clock, it was only eight, on a Saturday. Even though she made an attempt to fall back asleep, her body was already awake. She quickly dressed after getting up and headed to the gym. One stipulation was established after the agreement with Lucas: "No running on the weekends." Today was going to be a light day, three miles, hit the weights, then core. She opened the doors, smiling at the sight of natural light coming in. She could not help but feel ecstatic every time she entered since this was the one place she was truly proud of.

The sound of music consumed the entire room. Drowning out the noise of the treadmill belt and the sound of Kian's rhythmic breathing. As she ran, Kian let her mind wander, as it always does. She kept a steady pace, pushing herself a little harder with each mile. Her muscles felt warmer with each mile, blood coursed through her veins. After hitting the three-mile mark she walked for another half, allowing her heart rate to slow down. Hopping off the treadmill, it was now time for weights, targeting her back and biceps. As she stood in front of the mirror curling the dumbbells, she began to come down from her runner's high.

Thirty minutes later after doing every exercise on her mental to do list, she was finally finished with her workout. Similar to running, she has always utilized exercise in general as a means to block out the outside world. But it provided her the confidence she need for her professional success. She was skinny and had little muscle throughout high school, but as puberty arrived, her basketball coach made her more aware of the potential she possessed. Then she started boxing, which significantly aided in her muscular growth. With her workout complete, Kian headed for the shower, feeling refreshed and energized.

Kian entered the spacious bathroom. She turned on the shower, allowing the warm water to wash away the sweat and tension from her body. The steam filled the room, fogging up the mirror, and Kian closed her eyes, letting out a deep sigh of relief. She stayed under the water for a few moments longer, letting the heat soothe her muscles, before reluctantly turning off the shower.

Wrapping herself in a soft towel, Kian made her way to her bedroom. She dressed in her usual casual attire, consisting of black jeans and a t-shirt. Color wasn't really her thing, which was pretty apparent. Her apartment is a good illustration of that. then walked out onto her balcony, where she had set up a small breakfast table. The view from her high-rise apartment was breathtaking, the sun just starting to rise over Los Angeles, casting a warm golden glow over the city.

Stepping out onto the balcony, where a tiny breakfast table had been put up. This one was connected to her living room. Giving a better view of the beautiful city Los Angeles. The sun shined bright as she looked out from her high-story condominium, giving the city a warm golden light.

She had no particular plans today, the group hadn't planned anything. From what Kian gathered Madison would likely be home resting up after a week of hard work. But more likely she was either hanging out with her boyfriend or with Olivia. Those two were inseparable, it seemed that working together wasn't enough for them. They just had to be attached by the hip at all times. In all honesty, she was happy with the outcome since it allowed her to see Lucas more often.

Kian's eyebrows furrowed as she glanced down at her phone, wondering why her Company commander was calling.

She hastily answered the call, "Good evening Sir."

"Good Morning Shepard." The gruff voice of Captain Bennett, greeted back.

She placed the coffee cup down, "What can I do for you, sir?"

"I just got word from up top, and I've been making the rounds and calling all of the Platoon commanders." The Captain paused for what seemed like centuries. Kian's heart raced as she thought of the many possibilities. For the first time in a while, she was scared. "We're being deployed to Afghanistan in two months, just wanted you to hear it from me before they inform the entire Company."
