Madison's POV

The musician had just finished up a meeting with her record label discussing her progress on her new music. They were pleased with her results and decided to release a new single in the up coming weeks. Madison was beyond excited to share this news with everyone, but more specifically Kian. She missed her Marine and hoped to stop by today for a surprise visit.

It had been a few hours since they last spoke, so hopefully Kian was resting. As Madison walked to her car, her phone rang. It was Lucas

"Luc, what's up?"

"Hey Mads, sorry to call I know you must've just gotten out of your meeting.." He paused for a second, "It's Kian.."

She could feel her stomach drop as she stopped in her tracks. Her mind went to every possibility, "Where is she?"

"Home, being stubborn. Look the only reason why I called you was because you're the only one she'll listen to. Just please, don't freak. Talk to her, for her sake and ours."

While she balanced her phone between her shoulders, the singer ran sped walked towards the car searching for her keys.

"Got it, thanks, Luc. I'll talk to you later.

He muttered a bye before hanging up, Madison tucked her phone away securely and started her drive to the taller woman's apartment. She took the time to mentally prepare herself for whatever it was she was about to see, as well as the push back she was going to undoubtedly receive.

...

As she waited for the elevator doors to open, the musician's leg bounced up and down. Her anxiety started to creep up her neck, but she was able to control it. She made a beeline for the metal doors as they opened, determined and ready for whatever was behind them. Madison had the spare key ready in case Kian didn't open the door. She banged aggressively, wanting to convey the gravity of the situation.

Despite her own worries and anxieties, Madison tried to contain her anger but was furious with Kian. She thought they had made real progress, that Kian admitting she had problems would open eyes to the reckless behaviors she was prone to falling back on. Especially now that she had finally agreed to therapy.

Madison quickly became aware of the sound of feet shuffling on the other side of the door, and moments later the door swung open to show a disheveled Kian. Her entire body was examined by the brunette's gaze. The skin of her left arm was red and angry. Kian held an ice pack to a bruise covering half of her forehead. Who knew what the black T-shirt was covering.

On autopilot, Madison pushed the woman in front of her inside allowing the front door to slam shut. The Lieutenant didn't put up a fight and permitted the action, knowing that it was best she just follow. She simply sat on the kitchen stool. She was already in enough trouble, there was no point in making it worse for either of them.

Madison quickly but carefully took the damaged arm and looked it over from head to toe. She was weighing the pros and cons of going to the hospital. The artist equated the wound to what your knee could experience after falling off a bicycle. The official term would be road rash. The bulk of Kian's forearm was red and it looked like it stung obviously due to the fact that the first layer of skin was missing.

Marking it as non-emergency she moved to what worried her most, her head. For the first time since had gotten there, they looked into each other's eyes. Madison was attempting to sense any indication of a brain injury. Now, she was no doctor but she did know the basic signs of a concussion.

"I'm sorry," Kian offered softly

Madison scoffed as she aggressively packed up the medical supplies. "Lately you've been saying that a lot, but I can't tell if you actually mean it."
