Solitary: The Walking Dead

Chapter Fifteen

Home sweet, home.

The sun rose and everyone woke up, Rick went over the plan and we got ready. Rick and Herschel open the gate and we all run through, Herschel stays behind making sure the gate is locked. The rest of the group start shouting and hitting the fence trying to distract the walkers, Bear barking along with them.

I take my knife and start killing the walkers and pushing through towards the building, we clear it out and make it the door, Rick looks around the corner and quickly presses himself to the wall.

Walkers dressed in riot gear start making their way towards us, Daryl tries shooting one with his crossbow but the arrow bounces off the helmet. We start trying to kill them but nothing works, until i realise.

"Stab upward!" I say doing exactly what i said and stabbing the walker from the chin up, killing it. I run over to Rick and Daryl and help them close the gate, when the gate is secure we move back over to the rest of the group and start helping them with the walkers.

I move over to Maggie, i reach around and stab the walker under the chin, pushing up at dar as i can before it drops down to the floor "thanks" she says giving me a small smile before getting back to work.

We get rid of all the walkers and Glenn starts walking back to the group when Rick stops him, "it looks secure." glenn says "not from the look of that courtyard over there" Daryl says.

"And thats a civilian" I say pointing to one of the walkers on the floor, "so the interior could be overrun from walkers from outside the prison" T-dog says, "well if theres walls down, what are we gonna do? We cant rebuild this whole place" Glenn asks.

"We cant risk a blind spot" Rick says "We have to push in" I say and we walk off into a new entrance, we move in quietly separating and looking around.

Rick finds the keys and unlocks the next door, i follow Daryl up the stairs, Rick runs up to help us, we find two walkers stuck behind the cell doors, i stap one in the head and Rick does the same to the other.

We open the doors and start clearing out the bodies, dragging them outside and throwing them into a pile to burn. "What do you think?" Rick asks the rest of the group as they make their way in, "Home sweet home." Glenn jokes "For the time being." Rick says "It's secure?" Lori asks unsure, "This cell block is." Rick says smiling to himself.

"What about the rest of the prison?" Hershal asks "in the morning, we'll find the cafeteria, and the infirmary" Rick says "we'll sleep in the cells?" Beth asks "i found the keys on some guards, daryl has a set too" Rick asys "i aint sleeping in no cage, i'll take the perch" Daryl says.

"Im gonna go keep watch" i say walking out of the building with Bear, i walk down to the overturned car and sit on top of it, Bear stays on the ground and starts running around the field. "Can I play with him?" Carl asks from up the path, "yeah just be careful" I say looking back out the fence.

"Hey Rick told me to come and get you!" Carol shouts walking down the road to the car "whats up?" I ask reaching down and grabbing her hand, pulling her up, "theyre gonna start looking for food and medical supplies" she says.

"You got this?" I ask "yeah", i jump down and start making my way back to the group "do you want a vest?" Rick asks "no i'll be fine" i say, checking my knife is sharp enough.

Daryl unlocks the door and we slowly make our way in. We quietly walk through, maggie gets startled by something and lets out a scream making me jump. We keep moving through, all the walkers are already dead so far.

We move further in and find a group of live walkers, i move closer and start killing off the walkers, but its too many. "Move back" I order, trying to move back myself. I feel a hand grab the back of my top and pull me closer to the group.

I turn around to the group and carry on moving, Herschel stumbles over a a walker on the ground but i grab his arm and keep him steady, "i got you" I whisper.

As we run more walkers come out, separating Maggie and Glenn from the rest of us, "we've lost maggie and glenn" I say as we run into a small dark room, "we have to go back" Herschel whispers.

"But which way?" Daryl asks "i can get us through" I whisper, standing up they all copy, i slowly open the door and we make our way through, I point in the direction we need to move and they follow.

Herschel screams from behind me, i turn to see a walker holding his leg, blood starts leaking from Hershal as the creature bites into him. I grab onto Hershals arms while the others sort out the walker.

I wrap his arm around my shoulder with Glenn and we start moving him, we get into a locked room and i lay him down on the floor, "rick tie your belt here!" I shout over the screaming, "im gonna need your axe!" i shout, the man hands it to me after tying his belt where i asked.

"This is gonna hurt but its also gonna save your life" I say to Hershal, "hold him down!" I order lifting the axe and hitting it down into his leg as hard as possible, i romove it and do the same more times until its done.

The man passed out from the pain, "he's bleeding out" Rick says "duck" Daryl mubles from next to me, we all duck down covering Hershals body, Rick moves his body to cover mine while Daryl stands.

"Holy shit"
