I knew it'd take really long before I can get used to whatever was happening right now. I desperately wanted to escape my forced engagement to Bianca. And now, a girl I barely know is pregnant with my child.

It seemed to me like every bad thing was happening all at once. I didn't want River living with us, but dad had grown very fond of her and the unborn baby. He even specifically wanted a grandson.

Soon, it was dinnertime. I went downstairs. Our chef Maria had returned home to look after her daughter who just had a baby. So Patricia was going to be making our food from now on.

I didn't mind. I preferred Patricia's cooking anyways. Soon, River came downstairs with Patricia and joined dad and I at the dining table.

She looked so cute with a messy bun, and my shorts and T-shirt that was a bit oversized for her. She sat on the second chair next to me.

That made me angry. It felt like she was scared of me. I looked at her wrist and saw the gauze wrapped around it. I sighed. So much for promising myself that I'd never hurt a woman.

I scrapped the cutlery against my plate in anger. I saw her move to the next chair out of the corner of my eye. Dad coughed lightly as a warning to me.

After dinner, dad instructed me to take care of River. Since my room was next to hers I had to help her get whatever she wanted for a midnight snack. I went up to my room after that, leaving my dad and River to chat.

I realized I'd been acting like a jerk all day. And I was the one who said I could tolerate her until the baby was born. I decided to do better from tomorrow.

I brushed my teeth and got ready for bed. While I was climbing into bed, my phone rang. It was Bianca. I didn't have the energy to talk to her, so I quickly turned off my phone.

I turned off the lights, and slowly relaxed. I heard light footsteps as River made her way upstairs to her room.

"I'll be nice to her tomorrow. After all she's carrying my child". I told myself.

Later that night, I heard River gently close her room door. It was just 2:15am. I wondered what she was doing awake by this time. Then I remembered what dad said about pregnant women having cravings and all that.

He even specifically told me to get her whatever she wanted to eat. I sighed. What was she up to now?. I quickly got out of bed, and went downstairs.

She was there in the kitchen, heating up some food. She was so cute. I stood at the foot of the stairs watching her. She then opened the freezer and found ice cream. She immediately ditched the food she just heated up, and took out the ice cream, immediately digging in.

She grabbed a bottle of honey, and a lot of beef jerky. I smiled. No wonder dad bought a lot of beef jerky. She really likes them. I watched as she drizzled honey on the beef jerky and took a bite.

She had a look of satisfaction on her face - like she was really enjoying it. I found it gross, but pregnant women do have weird cravings. And I guess their palette also changes.

As she started walking out of the kitchen, I hurriedly went back upstairs. She bumped into me on her way back up. I got flustered, and quickly snatched the ice cream from her hand.

"Y- you....how dare you touch my ice cream? Who said you could go to the kitchen?". I asked.

"Well.....I- I'm sorry. Didn't know the ice cream was yours. I just got hungry". She reply.

"You're trying to get me in trouble with my father, right? He said you should come to me if you got hungry. Why did you go to the kitchen yourself?". I asked almost yelling.

She lowered her head. I grabbed her hand, and took her up to her room. I made her sit on the bed.

"Stay here. And eat whatever you want. The staircase is dark. If you slip and fall I'll be the one to get in trouble. You have my number. Text me if you need anything". I said.

I gently placed the bowl of ice cream on the nightstand before slamming the door and leaving

"At least I tried to be nice". I told myself as I got into my room.
