I hurried to the company as soon my dad called me. It seemed pretty urgent. I didn't want to make him wait.

But I was left speechless when I got to his office. He angrily slapped a piece of paper on the table. I slowly pick it up, and look at it.

"What is this father?". I ask him.

He glared at me. "This my son, is the fruit of your loins".

I frowned. "What fruit? Father you're confusing me. I can't understand when you talk like that". I told him.

He sighed. "Ilay look at the name on that sonogram". He said.

I looked closely, and there, at the bottom left of the image was a name. "Uh....it says 'River Hartford'. What's that got to do with me?". I ask, confused.

He picked up a folder and threw it at me. Then he slammed his hand hard on the table. "How could you be so unconcerned? That girl is carrying your child. Yes! That thing right there is a sonogram done today. She's six weeks pregnant, and you dare to ask what it's got to do with you?!".

I was still confused. Who was this 'River'? "What? She's pregnant? Wait. I've never met anyone named River. How could she be carrying my child?". I asked

He pulled out his phone, and shoved it in my face. "Does this ring a bell? You spent the night with her at your party. The pregnancy and your date of return align perfectly, so don't even try to deny it. I checked the hotel's CCTV footage too". He said.

A chill ran down my spine. It was her. The girl from that night a month ago. There was no way I'd forget that hair and those earrings that now sit in a drawer in my room. I stood stoned in my spot unable to say anything.

"How could this happen. This is like a plot from a fucking movie! How the fuck did she get pregnant right after losing her virginity with me that night?". I thought to myself.

I wouldn't say I had forgotten about the incident. I still thought about her from time to time, but I never really bothered to look for her. It was just a one-night stand anyways. And after finding out that she paid the bartender to drug me, I didn't really feel like I'd want to meet her again.

"Did you know she was about to have an abortion? I stopped her in the nick of time. My grandson would've died today". He said.

I stayed silent.

"I made her an offer". Dad said, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"I'll give her fifty million, if she agrees to give birth to the baby. Also she'd be moving in with us. You have to care for your unborn child and it's mother". He said.

I disagreed. "Father! This is all too much for me to take in right now. You can't spring this up on me. As of yet, I haven't even come to terms with the fact that I'm about to become a father!". I said.

"I won't have my first grandchild born outside the family!". He said sternly.

I started to protest. "Dad you don't know the kind of girl she is. She came onto me.....".

"I don't want to hear anything else. You may leave". He said, cutting me off. I walked out angrily.

I needed to find a place to cool my head,  and slowly process all this.

I lit a cigarette and got in my car. I only smoked when I was pissed, or just really needed to clear my head. I drove off. But instead of heading home, I stopped at a lake a few steps away from my house.

I sat by the lake, and took a long drag of the cigarette in my hand. I wished mom was here. If she hadn't passed away so early, perhaps she'd listen to me first before making life decisions for me.

I only had a vague memory of her. Her laughter and her smile were etched into my memory. But that's about all I remember about her. All that's left now is her pictures.

I sat there long into the night. I only returned home when I was sure I was calm enough to not pick a fight with dad.
