The next morning, I have all of Justin's stuff out the door. I hurry off to school after having breakfast. I'd already cooked up a perfect story and I have my friend, Spencer backing me.
Thanks to Spencer, I don't get into trouble. I'm glad I have school to distract me. During lunch, I tell Spencer everything that happened two days ago, and he's pissed.
He gets up to go to the faculty of law to find Justin, and beat Justin up. I pull him back.
"Please Spencer, for my sake don't create a scene. It'd only make things worse".
Spencer clenches his fist. "He had no right to hurt you, River. I remember how he fought me back in highschool, just so he could have you. I gave up when I saw you choose him, and this is how he treats you?".
I was stunned. "Spencer you....liked me back in highschool?". I ask.
"Well....yes. almost all the boys did. But we didn't dare express our feelings. Then you chose Justin, and we had to back off". He said.
I chuckled. "If you were brave enough, maybe I would've been with you instead Spencer". I tease him.
He ignores me and sips on his coffee. I chuckle.
After lunch, I head back with Spencer, then I tell him to go ahead without me because I needed to use the washroom.
I walk into the washroom, and my phone rings. It's Justin. Ugh....I thought I blocked him.
"What do you want, Justin". I ask as soon as the call connects.
"Why you being so hard on me, Ri? It's just a small matter that we can put behind us. You don't have to throw me out of the house". He says to me.
How disgusting. Totally unrepentant.
I take in a deep breath. "I'm sorry Justin. There's no 'we'. From the moment I saw you with that girl, I burried all of my feelings for you. Take your stuff and leave".
It was clear he only wanted to get back together because of the apartment. He had no where else to go.
"My mom wants us to be together, River. How are you going to give her an explanation?". Now he was blackmailing me.
"Don't you dare use your mom to threaten me. You'd be the one to tell her why we broke up. And if you can't, I'd help you do it". I hang up without waiting for him to say anything else.
I splashed some water on my face to calm myself. My heart was racing. I hated myself for ever being in a relationship with someone like Justin.
I walk out of the washroom feeling exhausted. The rest of the day passes by quietly. I wanted to see Meagan, but she was really busy at work. She owned an event planning business, and it was doing really well.
After my classes, I head to the supermarket with Spencer, to stock up on some groceries. Especially the shrimp chips.
Spencer gives me a ride back to my apartment, and helps me carry the things I bought. Thankfully, Justin had already taken all his things. We carry the things in. I make Spencer a cup of coffee to thank him.
I notice something on the floor. It was a picture of Justin and I. The picture we took at homecoming. I kneel right next to the picture, and start bawling my eyes out.
In the picture I have a silver pendant necklace around on. Justin had given it to me. I'm still wearing it. I instantly snap the necklace off my neck, and throw it across the room.
Spencer crouches down next to me and hugs me tightly. "Hey, hey, please don't cry. I can't stand seeing you like this". He says to me.
"I really thought I'd moved on from him Spencer. Why does it still hurt badly?". I cry.
Spencer ends up staying longer to comfort me.
