Emilia's POV

Last night after dinner Elena and I were talking on her bed. She told me how she came out to mom as lesbian and that things went well.

She admitted that she wasn't at the library but instead went to lunch with Daren and came out to him. He of course was understanding.

She now had to figure out when she would tell Abuelita. I told her if she needed moral support.

"There's my perfect daughters who I love so much, but won't call beautiful because they don't like it when people emphasize the importance of physical appearance." Mom says as she enters the kitchen and hugs us from behind and kissing our cheeks.

"Uh, good morning to you, too." I say skeptic to he jolly mood.

"Hey, last night I did a little reading on Autostraddle, the lesbian lifestyle and pop-culture website." Mom says as she opens the fridge.

"Really?" Elena asked.

"Yeah! I learned a ton of interesting stuff. Fun fact, did you know monocles had a huge following in the stylish lesbian circles of the early 20th century?" Mom states off.

"If this is your way of telling me that you're getting me a monocle for my birthday, I'm gonna be really upset." Elena tells her.

"Or we could talk about Gaga instead." Mom says changing subjects.

"Lady Gaga?" I asked.

"Yeah. Is she a gay icon, or just a publicity monger?" Mom asks eating some of her fruit.

"I don't know, she's, like, a thousand years old." Elena says while shrugging.

"So you're probably not interested in what I found out about Eleanor Roosevelt? Tons of monocles." Mom continues on.

"Mom, I get it. You're aggressively okay with my sexuality." Elena says finally understanding what mom was doing.

"Of course! Who wouldn't be?" Mom asked sarcastically.

"DJ Abuelita over there?" I say nodding over to Abuelita listening to music with headphones on. She was picking songs for our quinces dance.

"I'm worried about coming out to her." Elena admits.

"Oh, really? You're not ready to have her follow you in the streets, ringing the shame bell?" Mom jokes.

"I think I'm gonna wait until after my quinces. All she's talked about the past two weeks is my stupid dance with Daren." Elena says.

"Right. Ay. Poor Daren. How's he gonna handle this? I bet he's gonna feel really weird about it. But that's understandable, right?" Mom asks.

"No, I already told him and he's totally cool. I mean, he insisted on being my dance partner to show his support." Elena explains as she clears her plate. I smile knowing she has so much support through this.

"Awesome! I'm glad everyone is so cool and doesn't feel weird in any way at all. You go, Daren!" Mom cheers as we exit the kitchen.

"Ah! There are my beautiful niñas. Elena, I'm doing the final tweaks on the quinces choreography, so I really want you to concentrate on your posture. Head high, shoulders back. Straighter. Straighter. Be as straight as you can be!" Abuelita says to Elena as she takes her headphones off. Mom and I give Elena a slight look at the irony of what Abuelita was saying. With that, Elena and I head to our room to finish getting ready for school.

The school day was pretty normal. Since we were having dance rehearsal with Daren and Josh today after school Mrs. Flores dropped us off at home.

Of course Abuelita greeted us at the front door prepared to get started. The coffee table was moved to allow more space and the rug acted as our dance floor.
She gave a a small snack and hurried us a long so that we can start.
