Emilia's POV

I enter Madame Delacroix's the modiste a few streets down from home. I wore my most fashionable dress.

The dress shop was elegant in every way. The interior design was white with accents of gold. A few chairs and couches placed around. At the center is a coffee table with delicious looking pastries. On the farthest wall was a big trifold mirror with a small platform in front. Rows of fabric in different colors, patterns, and styles take up most of the remaining space. There is a shelf with a few ready to wear dresses. It's not many seeing as Madame Delacroix specializes in custom wear.

I look to my left to find a boy about my age at the front desk. He had brown hair and blue eyes. In front of him was a copy of Their Eyes Were Watching God, a single headphone in his ear. No doubt listening to the audio book while he reads. An interesting read for a guy like him.

"How are you liking it so far?" I ask approaching him. A bit startled he looks up and takes out the head phone.

"Uh.. Joe is a real jerk, that's for sure." He states with a shake of his head.

"Oh definitely. But Janie can hold her own." I say with a shrug.

"For sure she can." He says with a smirk.

"Are you reading for school?" I asked curious why he chose it. At this point I have completely forgotten about why I came in. But I was enjoying the conversation.

"No I actually heard about it from a tik toker I follow. Thought it was an interesting read." He explains.

"Jesse! Do we have a guest?" I hear a heavy French accent come from the back room. Out comes a beautiful and stylish woman I recognize as Madame Delacroix.

"Jesse who do we have here?" She asked the boy. He goes to answer but soon realizes we never exchanged names.

"Hello Madame Delacroix! My name is Emilia Alvarez, I've been admiring your work for months. And I was wondering if you were by chance hiring." I say introducing myself.
