Emilia's POV
"Come on, everyone. I love you all but I want you gone." Mom calls out. It's Valentine's Day and all the couples were going out while mom spent some time alone. Josh and I decided to participate in a dance competition at the park. And then go out to dinner at Benihana
"We are going to have so much fun at the viejitos lawn bowling tournament." Abuelita says happily as she smooths out the collar on Josh's shirt. He wore a deeper toned red to match my dress.
"Lawn bowl so hard, other chuckers want to find me." Dr. Berkowitz adds on trying to sound cool."That sounds like a hell of a date. You must be anxious to get it started." Mom says not so subtly urging us to get on.
"Don't be silly, Lupe. Leslie is not my date. He is the chaperone." Abuelita laughs off.
"Who's your date?" Mom asked her looking up from her magazine.
"Let's get this bocce ball rolling." Alex says walking out from his room. In a white shirt that matches Abuelita and Dr. Berkowitz.
"You're really this excited about watching lawn bowling?" Josh asked him quirking a brow.
"I've been grounded for three weeks with no phone or TV. Last week, I read a Jane Austen book... for fun." Alex exclaims.
"You know that's not a bad thing right...?" I asked him rhetorically.
"Yeah, and remember you're still grounded, and the only reason I'm letting you go is 'cause this seems worse." Mom adds on.
"What do you think?" Elena asked as she and Syd came out in their outfits.
"I think I'm glad you two found each other." Mom says smiling awkwardly.
"We are celebrating. This is our first Valentine's together, and my first time acknowledging Valentine's Day." Elena says happily.
"Is that because all the other years you were at home making fun of it 'cause, really, you were sad?" I asked sassily. Just wanting to poke fun at her. She sticks her tongue out at me.
"Why does your head look like a butt?" Abuelita asked staring at their hats in wonder.
"They're hearts. We are not doing the typical corporate Valentine's Day. I have planned an amazing day of service. Syd and I are doing the Heart Healthy fun run. Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of women?" Elena explains.
"Second only to these dimples." Alex says with a smirk.
"Papito, you are the number one lady killer. You are the lady serial killer." Abuelita says creepily.
"Okay, Mami, getting weird." Mom states shaking her head.
"Anyway, what we're doing is perfect." Elena continues on.
