Emilia's POV
It was a quiet evening. Elena, Alex, and I sat at the dining on our phones while Abuelita prepared dinner in the kitchen. Alex's phone dings and he gives a hearty chuckle.
"Mmm! "I love you." From P." Elena reads aloud after snatching his phone.
"Who's P?" I asked with a smirk wondering who he's texting love messages to.
"Papito. I text myself encouragements. I love you, too, papito." He says speaking to his phone. Elena and I give each other a look not believing him at all.
"Look at you, all in love with your secret girlfriend." I say playfully shoving his shoulder.
"She's the one with the girlfriend." He says pointing to Elena who giggles at what must be a text from Syd.
"Yeah." Elena says dreamily.
"Hey, come on, no phones at dinner." Mom says coming out to the dining area. But she then takes out her phone and laughs after it chimes.
" What? This could be Dr. Berkowitz." She defends after we send her a glare.
"But you laughed. Leslie's jokes are not funny. Knock, knock. Who's there? Who cares?" Abuelita says coming out with dinner.
"Well, he was nice enough to let me come home early so we could eat together. He had plans, so it worked out." Mom says with a dismissive wave.
"Did he mention where he was going?" Abuelita asked immediately.
"I didn't ask." Mom shrugged.
"Did he mention who he was going with?" Abuelita continued.
"Mami, I don't know. Why do you care anyway? Aren't you two just friends?" Mom asked in turn.
"Sí, of course. Did he turn right or left out of the parking lot?" Abuelita asked again.
"Just look at his Facebook. He checks in everywhere." I tell Abuelita.
"Last week, he checked in at his attorney's office and wrote, Hashtag, my daughter is suing me." Alex adds on.
"Syd and I would never stalk each other on social media." Elena says smuggly.
"I don't want to stalk him. I want to know exactly where he is and follow him there. Show me, papito." Abuelita exclaims.
"Okay. He just checked in downtown at the opera. Hashtag, just checked in downtown at the opera." Alex says checking his phone.
"But I always accompany him to the opera." Abuelita says sadly.
"It's not like he took another woman!" Mom jokes causing me and Elena to laugh.
"You think so?" Abuelita asked seriously.
"Mami, no. Because that's ridiculous. He probably took a family member." Mom says trying to reason.
"Yeah. Like his daughter, who is suing him." Alex says sarcastically.
"He can take whoever he wants." Abuelita says dismissively before standing and storming off to her room.
"Abuelita, are you okay?" I asked seeing her genuinely upset.
"I am fine, nina. I am very, how do you say... Very chill. ¡Carajo!" She say in a not ver chill tone. Pulling her curtains shut in anger she tugs too hard causing them to fall.
"Yeah. That ain't chill." Mom jokes giving Abuelita a smirk.
Later into the evening Elena and I were still bothering Alex about his secret crush.
