The sun had fully risen by the time Y/N and Shen took their positions in the courtyard. The light bounced off Shen's sword as he gave it a slow, deliberate twirl, the blade humming through the air. Y/N, with her staff resting confidently in her hands, hummed a tune under her breath. It was something she often did when she needed to focus—something to keep her grounded, even as the intensity of the moment built around her.

Shen eyed her with a small smirk, his feathers ruffling slightly in amusement. "Humming during a fight? Really?" he teased, tilting his head as his red eyes gleamed.

Y/N shrugged, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "Helps me stay sharp," she shot back, twirling her staff in her hands, the wood whistling with each spin. "Besides, it'll keep you on your toes."

Without warning, Shen lunged forward, his sword aiming for a precise strike at her side. Y/N reacted quickly, her staff meeting his blade with a sharp clang. The impact echoed through the courtyard as they locked into a fast-paced rhythm, both moving with an effortless grace that spoke to the countless hours of training they had undergone.

"You're quick today," Shen remarked, the smile in his voice audible as he took another swipe, this time at her legs. Y/N jumped, using her staff to vault over his blade and land nimbly on her feet.

"You have to be when you're fighting a peacock with a sword," she quipped, giving him a playful wink. Shen's eyes narrowed, but his smirk deepened.

They danced around each other, each strike and block becoming more fluid, more natural. Shen's sword was a blur of silver, while Y/N's staff whirled like a force of nature, constantly meeting his blade in mid-air. They moved with a kind of synchronicity that could only come from knowing each other's strengths—and weaknesses—intimately.

At one point, Y/N spun her staff over her head, sweeping it low toward Shen's feet. He jumped gracefully, countering with a rapid strike aimed at her shoulder. Y/N blocked it, the force of their weapons clashing sending vibrations through her arms. She winced slightly, but kept moving, humming louder now, her eyes gleaming with mischief.

"You call that a hit?" she taunted, stepping to the side and swiping at his midsection. Shen spun, dodging her blow and grinning as he landed behind her.

"Just wait," he said, his voice a low, confident murmur. He flicked his blade toward her once more, forcing Y/N to backpedal. "You're fighting well today," he added, his tone sincere even amidst their sparring. "But can you keep up?"

Y/N smiled through her exhaustion, her chest heaving from the constant movement. "I could ask you the same thing, Shen," she retorted, gripping her staff tightly as she pivoted and launched herself off the ground. In one fluid motion, she blew a gust of air at him, a focused attack that sent him sliding back on his claws.

Not to be outdone, Shen responded in kind, his feathers flaring as he gathered wind around him, sending it barreling toward her in a sharp counterattack. Y/N's eyes widened as the air knocked her off her balance, but she landed on her feet, skidding backward as she caught herself.
