"When does it happen?" Sam asked her and Cori looked at him oddly. "What?" "You disappearing. When does it happen?" "I don't know. It just does." Cori told him with a shrug of a shoulders as she kicked some loose soil around.
"It has to be based around something Cori. Pain, anger, panic, something." Sam told her as he studied her. "I don't know! Half the time I don't even realize it happens. Other people realize I've disappeared, not me." Cori huffed as she turned to look at the wolf, already annoyed.
"What about Bella?" "Bella?" "She's noticed it, yeah?" Sam asked and Cori nodded her head. "Sam, she doesn't know about you. How are you going to explain to her that we need her help without exposing yourself?" "Just tell it how it is. It's a part of the tribes history. Leave it at that." He shrugged as they seemed to fall into awkward silence.
"What's going on with you?" Sam asked of no where, making Cori's blue eyes flicker over to him.
"What?" "You've been broken up with before." Sam told her and Cori's eyes immediately cut to the ground beneath her feet.
"This is different." "How? The only difference is that he was a leach." Sam told her. "It's different because I loved him. Okay? I loved him with everything I had and I thought we had a connection, but I was just some stupid human who fell for his trap. He made me believe I was his mate, and I loved him like I was his. I loved him like how you love Emily, Sam. And then, then like it was nothing, he throws it away. Like I was nothing. I guess that's what I get." Cori mumbled as she leaned against a tree as Sam watched the tears drip down her cheeks, the red head not even realizing they were falling.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked as he kept his eyes on her, and her blue eyes met his. "That's what I get for falling in love with a Cullen."
The wolf was stuck between a rock and a hard place. He didn't do emotions, yet he wanted to fix his relationship with Cori. Even Emily had commented that it was starting to take a toll on him, and he needed to fix it.
"Cordelia, listen to me. You did absolutely nothing wrong. Emily had seen you two together, she had seen you happy. If some ancient blood sucker wants to run away and lie about his own happiness, then you don't need him, but don't for a second start be believe that any of this was your fault."
"I hurt them Sam! I'm dangerous!" Cori cried as her eyes burned from her shed tears as Sam's words registered. "No, you're not. You protected the ones you loved. It happened to be from people that you care about, maybe it says more about them than you." He told her and she stopped.
"You're not the bad guy here Cori. No matter what kind of twisted lies he put into your head, you were never the bad guy. You're just something we don't know much about."
It was silent between them for a moment before Cori looked up at Sam. "Why are you doing this? You hated us being together. You called it unnatural. Why the turn of heart?" Cori asked him.
"I wouldn't say it's a turn of heart, but I realized I shouldn't have said those things. Emily and I's situation isn't much different. I just want you happy. I want you to understand what you are, and your abilities, and I want my little sister back. There is no one else what knows what it feels like to be the first of your kind, alone, and scared. I want to help, but I can't do that if we don't trust each other." Sam told her.
"My trust is a little broken right now." She told him with a watery grin and he smiled gently. "I'll gain it back." He told her.
Opening one arm wide Cori walked into his side as he embraced her, and it was like the damn that had been there since they left broke. Everything came flooding out. The tears, the crying, and anger, and Sam was there for it all, and it was also when he got his answer.
As the whirlwind of emotions swirled through Cordelia's eyes, so did her powers as she flickered in and out of reality. Sam watched in amazement as she didn't even seem to realize what was happening to her, it was just natural.
"Cori. CORI!" Sam said as she shook the girl slightly by the shoulders as she started to hyperventilate, her emotions becoming too strong as she began disappearing for longer and longer periods of time. "What?" She asked softly as she looked up into his brown ones and he saw the young version of Cordelia that always won over his heart.
Going to shake his head, his eyes spied something that made him freeze. Part of her sweater had slipped off of her shoulder, revealing the scar of the bite. "You were bitten?" Sam asked, his voice firm, the softness from earlier had vanished and Cori had immediately picked up on it.
"Yeah. Carlisle made sure to get all the venom out." She told the wolf but Sam still had an unsettled look on his face. "What, Sam?" "Vampire venom is extremely potent. Especially to certain creatures." "And?" "We have a larger problem on our hands than just your powers, Cori. I need to talk to the Council, and figure out a plan." Sam told her.
"A plan for what? You're scaring me, Sam." Cori said as she looked up at the copper toned male beside her. "A plan for you, Cori. That bite, it did something, we've just gotta figure out what."
A/N: What do you think Sam found out through the tribe? Do you think the tribe may know something that Carlisle doesn't?
