After a few days had went past, and no word from Jacob, Bella was verging on just going to see the boy herself, though Cori talked her down every time.
Was the red head pissed at the boy, yes. Did she want her girlfriend to be made into wolf chow, no, not really. So instead she asked questions.
"When did Jacob start not feeling well?" Cori asked. "Remember when you said you were training. It was late. Mike and Eric wanted to see that movie, face punch I think, but then it seemed everyone but Mike got sick. I brought Jake along. I know Mike's your friend, but he gets a little close sometimes. Jake was a buffer. Mike ended up getting sick, then Jake. His temper flared, and so so did his body temperature. It was like he was an oven. He went home pretty soon after that." Bella explained.
Cori nodded at her explanation, but Bella had questions. "Why?" "Billy was wondering what he could have gotten into. I told him I didn't know, but you might have."
"That's why I should go over, Lia. The sooner he gets back to himself, the better." "Bella, he's contagious-" "I don't care!" Bella bluntly said, startling the red head. "What else happened?" Cori asked. "Nothing, it's just-" "Bella?" Cori asked, hurt lacing her voice. "Nothing happened. Jake grabbed my hand, I slid it out. I told him that holding my hand didn't mean the same thing to me as it did to him, and that we shouldn't do it. Also because you would get mad. He tried to reword what I said, but it didn't work. I swear. I wouldn't hurt you like that, Lia. That's when Mike came out, and things got heated." Bella explained.
"All of this because he couldn't take a little rejection." Cori chuckled under her breath. "You're not mad?" Bella asked. "At you, no. At Jacob, extremely." Cori told her and Bella sighed.
"I need to see him. I don't care if he's sick, or that he could make me sick." Bella had made up her mind, remembering how warm he was under her hands made the girl's worry climb even higher, especially now that it had been over a week and he was showing no signs of improvement.
"Bella." "No, don't try to talk me down, Lia. I'm going." "It's not a good idea! Bella please!" Cori tried, but it was no use, the girl already had on her shoes and was headed towards the door. "If you're serious about going, don't forget a jacket, let's not be stupid about this." Cori said as she threw Bella's rain coat at her as she also scooped up her own.
"You're coming?" "You think I would let you go alone to meet mr grabby ?" Cori asked and Bella snorted.
Pulling up to the Black's house, Cori swore under her breath as Jacob walked in the rain with nothing but a pair of denim cutoffs and a pair of shoes. "What the hell?" Bella asked aloud as she practically flew out of the drivers seat, the truck still running.
"Jake!" Bella called out, and even though her tone was even, Cori could hear the hurt in the one word. "Hey!" She called out as her steps got a bit faster, trying to still watch her footing as the usual dirt was nothing but mud now.
"You cut your hair off? And got a tattoo?" Bella asked, angry that the boy in front of her had changed so much, yet still hadn't reached out to contact her.
"Bella." Jacob said softly, wishing she would understand as his eyes flickered up to the red head that waited in the truck.
"I thought you were too sick to come outside, or pick up the phone when I called."
"Go away." Jacob told her, and that one phrase started a frenzy. "What?" Bella asked, not believing what she was hearing. "Go away." He repeated and the words seemed to tear the girls heart apart again. "What happened to you? What's- Hey! What happened?" She questioned, grabbing him by the shoulder when he turned away from her.
"Did Sam get to you? Is that what's happening?" She asked, the question taking both Cori and Jake by surprise. "Sam's trying to help me. Don't blame him. If you want someone to blame, look to your girlfriend, or maybe those filthy blood suckers you love, the Cullens?" Jacob said with so much venom it actually made Bella step back.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Bella told him. "You know exactly what I'm talking about! How Cori's some freak, and how you both have been lying to everyone, like Charlie. But you can't lie to me. Not anymore, Bella." Jacob told her with finality.
A voice yelled out in the distance, Sam, hollering for the young boy. Cori's eyes caught the Alpha's and they had a staring match, until Sam looked back to the young Beta.
"Look, Bella. We can't be friends anymore." He told her and Cori heard Bella sob from the truck, her tears being mixed in with the rain. "Look, Jake, I know that I've been hurting you. It's killing me. It kills me. I just need... Maybe give me, like, some time or something." Cori's eyes narrowed at the phrasing of her words, and looked to the wolf to see what he would do.
Looking back up to the red head who was glaring at the two, Jacob could tell Cori was hearing every word. "Look, don't. It's not you." "It's not you, it's me, right? Really?" Bella asked. "It's true, it is me. I'm not good. I used to be a good kid. Not anymore. This doesn't even matter. All right? You have Cori. This is over." Jacob told her.
"You can't break up with me. I mean-" Bella paused realizing what she said with wide eyes. "I mean, you're my best friend. You promised me." Bella pleaded. "I know. I promised I wouldn't hurt you, Bella. This is me keeping that promise. Go home, and don't come back. Or you're gonna get hurt." Jacob told Bella, as another sob broke through her, the wolf running off to join his pack.
Cori closed her eyes as she heard the sloppy steps of her girlfriend get closer to the truck, and she realized that she had to act as if she hadn't heard a word the two had spoke to each other.
Wiping the tears off her face, Bella climbed up into the truck. "Bella?" "I just wanna go home." The brunette said softly as she backed out of the drive and headed back to Forks. It was quiet between the two. Neither of them wanting to talk, both having a million thoughts running through their heads.
Pulling up to the white sided house, Cori opened her door first. "Lia?" "I'm gonna head home, let you think over what ever Jacob said." Cori told her and Bella nodded robotically.
Walking home in the rain, Sam's words rang out in her head.
"Different aspects of your powers can come through at different points. You have to be ready. They will always appear for a reason. May it be good or bad."
Today it was advanced hearing.
As soon as she was in her room alone, the picture of herself and Bella went flying into the wall, shattering the glass as she screamed, tears streaming down her face as she sunk down to the floor. "Fuck!" She screamed as doubt crawled back into her mind, making a home for itself as it would be lingering around.
A/N: Did this chapter go how you thought it would? Let me know. I'm really hoping to get into some lighter subjects again, but you can't have the light without the dark.
