the next day edith refuses to discuss what happened the night before with alison. she figures that now her unrequited love is out there in the universe, she may as well avoid further embarassment and try to get her life back to normal. that's not to say she was going to avoid edwina entirely, only when she was out courting anthony. edith decided she would start out by spending much more time with eloise and penelope again; so today she didn't dare leave eloise's side, even as she spoke to kate and the three ended up having tea on the porch.

alison, on the other hand, was worried about her sister but decided to let it go for her sake. she resided in an upstairs sitting room with colin and benedict. the elder bridgerton had expressed his worry about his impending acceptance to the academy, which would be either today or tomorrow.

colin stirrs benedict's tea. "if it is a clear mind you seek, brother, i may know how to help. worldy travellers use it as a way to open their minds and transcend ordinary anxieties." he referrs to the herbs in his hand.

"i fear i shall need to take some home with me." alison jokes.

colin sprinkles a small amount into the teacup, just before benedict snatches the bag of herbs off his brother and coughs once he smells it.

"smell it, al." he passes the bag to the driftwater girl, who leans forward and gags at the putrid smell.

"colin, that is rancid!" she cringes.

"smells rather foul, does it not?" bendict speaks once more.

"it only takes the smallest of doses to feel the effects." colin tells him, passing the tea over.

benedict sips the tea and only shrugs.
"well it isn't going to work right away, you twit." alison chuckles.

"and how would you know?" benedict gives her a look.

"because i read, something you clearly should do more of." she fires back.

"actually, she is right." colin agrees.

"whatever is the point? i hardly think that a tea will distract me from the momentous decision the prospectors at the royal schools are making at this very moment." benedict puts the tea down.

"if it makes you feel any better, they have probably already decided." she shrugs, making benedict groan. obviously, this made him feel worse. "or not..." she trails off, awkwardly.

"or perhaps it will allow you to escape the thoughts that've been plaguing your mind." colin interjects. "the doubts, the questions that seem to linger no matter how far you go to escape them."
