it is early at bridgerton house, preciscely the day after pen and colin's wedding.
"-do not let your marriage be the scar." eloise leans forward, gently placing a hand on colin's arm.
the two are in the drawing-room alone, as the former proceeds to encourage her brother to forgive penelope - just as her and edith have.
"no." colin says, turning himself away and standing.
"she is right, colin." edith speaks from the doorway, making the pair jump in shock. "forgive me, i should've announced myself."
"edith, why are you here so early?" colin asks.
"i think the better question is, why aren't you at home with your wife?" the youngest driftwater speaks, walking into the room to stand by eloise's seat. "though, if you must know, el invited me for tea."
"and pen is having tea with her mother this morning, so-" eloise continues for her, trailing off slightly.
"nevertheless, you know that you will resolve things with-" edith is cut-off by colin, who stares at the doorway once more.
"penelope. what are you doing here?" he is quick to carry on once portia walks into the room behind his wife. "i, um... i was not expecting to see you till later this afternoon."
"she knows, colin. you do not have to hide your ire." penelope says.
"certainly we should not be having this discussion in front of miss bridgerton and miss driftwater." portia butts in.
"they both know everything as well." the younger red-head confirms.
"wonderful. glad to see the whole of mayfair seemed to know before your own mother."
"and why do we all suddenly know that we know?" eloise stands.
"because cressida discovered my secret, and she demands £10,000 to keep it."
"that dubious little blighter." edith scoffs.
"you cannot be serious." colin says.
"how did she discover you?" eloise asks.
"i am not sure." penelope offers a guilty expression.
"it does not matter how." colin interjects. "if she knows, we must prevent her from revealing it."
"i'm not asking for your help. i merely wanted to be honest with you." penelope tells her husband.
"it is not up to you what we do." the bridgerton man says simply.
"i think you'll find that it is, actually." edith gives him a confused look.
"if miss cowper spreads this gossip, it will besmirch our bridgerton name. the entire family. and i will not stand for anyone blackmailing my wife!"
