edith arrives at the meadow, her heart fluttering with excitement. she sees edwina sharma sitting under a tree, her dark hair loose around her shoulders for once, her skin glowing in the soft sunlight that filters through the leaves. the driftwater girl takes a moment to admire her before making her way over.

"you look lovely." edwina says, her voice low and soft. "the sunlight suits you."

"hush." edith chuckles and sits beside her on the blanket. "i am not terribly late, am i?"

edwina shakes her head, a small smile playing on her lips. "no, you're not late." she says. "i only arrived a few minutes before you. but i must admit, i've been looking forward to this all day."

"me too." edith sighs happily. "so, what have we got here?" edith gestures to the basket edwina has laid out on the picnic blanket.

"i brought us some treats." she says, opening the basket. "some sandwiches, some fruits, and a few pastries. nothing fancy, but i hope you will like them."

"i would like any such thing you brought me, that much is true."

the sharma girl grins a little at her words, pleased by her response. "you flatter me." a hint of a blush creeps up on her cheeks. "but i'm glad you're not too picky about your food. i wanted to bring something simple, so we could focus on other things."

"focus on what?" the older girl asks innocently.

"focus on this." edwina whispers, moving closer and placing a chaste kiss on edith's lips.

"ah, i see." edith giggles. "i must admit, it is rather good to be beside you without the watching eyes of the ton. it's a relief that a majority of them have retreated to their country homes."

edwina nods in agreement, a small smile playing at her lips. "it's nice to have a bit of peace and quiet, isn't it? just us, and an open meadow, with no one having to chaperone."

"indeed." edith chuckles. "now, back to where we were?" she adds, cheekily.

"and let all of this well-prepared food go to waste?" edwina says jokingly, nodding towards her picnic basket.
