Sasha had convinced me to come with her to a boat party, and I felt out of place. All the girls were twerking and drinking out the liquor bottles. The guys were throwing money and spraying champagne everywhere.

I stayed inside scrolling on my phone counting down to the time it would be over. "Naomi, why are you in here looking lonely?" She sat next to me.

"I'm not, I'm just chilling." I lied.

"You complain about how boring your life is and then I get you out of the house and you sit in the corner the whole night. Come on, get your ass up. Make a drink and go mingle." She stood up and pulled me by my arm.

I stood up reluctantly, "Okay, okay, let me go." I pulled my arm out of her hold.

There was a margarita machine upstairs, so went there and grabbed a drink and she followed me. "See there's fine niggas everywhere, go get one." She nudged me.

"Why can't they come get me?" I whined. "Maybe they would if you looked approachable."

"Okay let me finish my drink and I'll mingle."

"Alright, ima come find you in fifteen minutes." She said before walking off.

I rocked my hips to the music as I sipped my drink, "Nice boat huh?" I guy walked up from behind me. "Even better view." I watched the sunset.

"Not better than the one I'm looking at." He said making me look at him. "That was smooth, how many girls have you used that on?" I asked.

"Only you, I never reuse material." He said. I chuckled, "I'm Naomi."

"I'm Chase." He said. "You here alone?" He asked.

"No, my friend invited me. You?"

He chuckled, "Nah they are all here for me." He said. "This my party."

I frowned, "You don't look like you're having fun."

"I was then I saw you weren't, so I came to fix that." He said.

I gave him a quick up and down, he wasn't bad— actually really fine. His skin is caramel colored, with scattered tattoos on his right arm and some very sexy lips. He had waves but his hair looked extremely soft.

"You mixed?" I asked. "Italian and black." He took a sip from his solo red cup.

I nodded my head. "Well you don't have to stay up here with me, I'm good," I said.

"I know, I want to. You're not like other girls and I'm intrigued." He licked his lips. "How's that?" I asked. Men loved overusing that "you different" line but can never give a real reason why they said it.

"You not trying to compete for attention by being the loudest in the room, or dancing provocatively in hopes of taking someone home after this. And even though you're wearing a swimsuit, you ain't showing all your assets— leaving something to imagine." He said.

I smirked, "Impressive."

"Impressive?" He questioned. I chuckled, "Guys always say I'm different but can never tell me how." I explained.

"So since I passed the test, how bout I take you out? I know a place, I think you'll like it." He said. "How can I say no?" I answered with a question.

"Well it's a date, let's exchange numbers." He suggested.

My life was looking way different than it did three months ago. I went from barely talking to guys to having them ask me out at such random times. On top of that, I've been getting out of the house more often. It was still taking some getting used to...

Though the party started a bit Rocky, in the end, it was worth it. Chase and I hit it off ending the night with a kiss, which I was usually against— but it felt so right in that moment.

"I see you enjoyed yourself, miss I don't kiss on the first date." Sasha mocked as we entered the car. "Technically what I said still stands considering it wasn't a date." I said.

"Girl please." She waved me off, pulling out of the parking lot. "He's the real definition of irresistible, he's like a Greek god," I said.

"That he is." She agreed.

"I had fun but I'm ready to get in bed," I said making her look at me crazy. "Uh-un, did you forget I was staying the night? We're supposed to eat snacks and watch scary movies." She said.

"Yeah, and we can do that in bed." I shot back. She gave me a look, "If you fall asleep I'm going home." She said seriously. "I'm not." I defended.

"Y'all got snacks at the house or should we stop by the house?" She asked. I thought for a second but couldn't recall, "Just stop by the store to be sure cause I can't remember." I said.

After we stopped by the store we went straight to the house. "Finally." I took my seatbelt off and got out of the car. "This shower is about to hit," Sash announced. "Mhm." I agreed as we approached the porch.

I used my key to get in, "We're back." I placed my keys on the accent table before heading to the stairs, "Hey, y'all look like y'all had fun. Even got a little tan too." My mama said from the couch.

"Yeah, it was fun. But I'm drained now, that sun was nothing to play with." Sasha said. We started to go up the stairs when she stopped us once more.

"Oh— and I almost forgot, you have some gifts sitting on the kitchen island. Amir came by earlier looking for you." My mama said making my heart sink.

I suppressed my initial reaction and shared a knowing look with Sasha.

We went back down the few steps and made a beeline for the kitchen. I was taken by surprise with all the flowers and gifts sitting on the counter.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't moved by his gesture.

It had been about two weeks since I talked to him, and out of the blue, he did this. Part of me wanted to unblock him but the other half knew better. I asked for a sign and got several, that was it for us.

"Ouu he bought some good shit." Sasha was hyped. I grabbed the black envelope from the top of the flowers."Help me take the bags upstairs." I said to Sasha who was looking through each one of them.

She didn't hesitate to grab a few and haul ass up to my room. I shook my head, nosey self.

I got up to my room and sat on the edge of the bed ready to open the letter. I looked at Sash, "Girl hurry the hell up and read it." She rushed me.

"Okay, okay." I ripped it open and unfolded the handwritten letter.

I read it out loud,

"First I want to apologize for putting you in such an uncomfortable position. I should've been a man and taken whatever charges they were going to give me, but I was selfish and didn't think about how it would make you feel. Second, I don't think you understand how much you made a difference in my life, even though it was only a month and some change.

I woke up every morning thinking of you, ready to text you, ready to spend time with you. The other girls didn't have shit on you, think about it— you were with me the majority of the day when you didn't have school and work.

And that's another thing I loved about you, your ambition. You ain't waiting around for a nigga to take care of you. But if you wanted me to I would, no questions asked. I fell for you and that scared the fuck out of me, but now that I haven't talked to you I'm fucked up.

What I'm trying to say is I'm very apologetic and I would be grateful if you took me back. I promise to put you first and never put you in any other compromising situation ever again!
