Summary: You and Narcissa have been dating for a few months now. You think it's time for you two to meet each other's families so you bring this up to her

Warnings: angst, eventual happy ending, insecurity.

The sun is high in the sky. It's summer and it's a very hot day. So Narcissa and you are taking the opportunity to have a pool day only for you two at her house. You don't regret at all having convinced Narcissa to buy Muggle swimsuits, since now you have the perfect view of your girlfriend wearing a black bikini that hugs her curves beautifully.

Narcissa's lying in a pool chair with a martini, soaking in some sun while you're in the pool near your girlfriend, with your elbows rested on the edge holding your head, admiring the view in front of you.

You and your girlfriend have been dating for about five months now, things couldn't be better. Well, they could actually... The thing is: you two haven't met each other's family. Narcissa hasn't met your parents and siblings. You haven't met her son. However you do think it is important to meet them for things to get even more serious between you two. So those are the thoughts that consume your mind at the moment.

"What's on your mind love?" Narcissa asks you, noticing you have that look on your face like you have something to say to her. She sits up, taking a sip of her drink before continuing. "And don't try saying nothing, I can see it on your face.."

Sensing it's now or never, you decide right now is the time to be honest with her and ask your girlfriend about meeting each other's families. "Actually, there is something I've wanted to ask you for a while... "

Narcissa raises an eyebrow interested and waited for you to continue on with your question or topic.

"Well... we've been dating for about 5 months now and it's been going great... and I..." you stop to choose your words carefully, knowing the can of worms you're about to open for discussion. "And I was just thinking..." you can feel your heart beating faster, but you have no choice but to be honest with her and go on with what you want to say. "I think we should talk...about meeting each other's families. I think it would be a good idea... I'd love to meet your son and I'd also love to finally introduce you to my parents and siblings..." There, you finally say it.

Silence. You hear crickets. Her eyes grow cold and distant.

"And you want us to do this.. why? I thought we were just fine...." she asks you in a sharp tone, her hand gripping her glass of martini until her knuckles are white.

"I..I mean we are..fine, we're great! It's just that I think it's time..." you try to backpedal, but it doesn't seem to be working as Narcissa's cold glare is fixated on you, like a predator waiting to pounce on its prey.

"Why?? Why would you want this?? We're just having a fun time together, why do you want to ruin everything by complicating it with meeting families and other nonsense?" she asks you with an edge to her voice, growing more and more irritated with you.

"I..I just thought we were getting serious and I want to take the next step..." you answer her in a weak voice, your heart racing and tears in your eyes as you're desperately trying to explain things to her, but you feel like you're saying the wrong things every time.

"WE ARE NOT GETTING SERIOUS!!" Narcissa yells at you, her voice raising and losing more and more of her composure with each word. "You think I'm serious about you when you're still a child??? You're so naïve, young, and stupid!" her words come out harsh, like shards of glass cutting and slicing you. "And you're not even that mature. You're just a young, silly girl who knows NOTHING about anything!"

You're speechless. You're trying so hard not to cry in front of her and show her how weak you are. But you can't help the tears streaming down your face now. Her words cut deep into you, hitting hard at your insecurities, bringing back memories of your parents' words and yelling from your past that you've tried to forget.

You pull yourself together long enough to scramble out of the pool, dripping wet and shaking, grabbing your clothes and bag and quickly putting them on before walking over to Narcissa.

"I need to go..." you say in a shaky and broken voice, your back facing her with tears in your eyes and still wet from the pool. You quickly Disapparate.

Narcissa's heart drops at the realization of what she just did and her harsh words to you. She didn't mean them, but she couldn't take them back now, and you were gone in a split second.

She stays in her pool chair, looking at the spot where you just were, and silently curses to herself that she's lost her cool demeanor and pushed you away... She pushed away the best thing that happened to her in a very long time. Narcissa doesn't want to admit it to herself, but this is the first time in so long that she's felt happiness with someone, and she foolishly messed it up by her own insecurities and fear.

She keeps replaying the scene from earlier in her head. How she yelled at and hurt you, how you looked at her with broken eyes while crying... Realization hits her now like a brick in the face. You were serious about her and wanted a future together. And she just pushed you away for fearing of getting attached to someone for once in her life, for once being vulnerable when she's grown to be strong and cold towards the world.

Now she is sitting by the pool alone, with a martini, and wondering what to do. Should she contact you? Should she wait for you to contact her? You seemed so hurt and upset that you probably hate her now and don't want to see her. So she decides to give it a night, let the both of you think calmly, and if you don't contact her by tomorrow, she'll come over to your place with her best and most sincere apology.
