Maternity Headcanons

- We know from my previous one shots that one of Narcissa's biggest dreams is to have a big family, or at least, to have more children after Draco.

- She specifically has always dreamed of having a daughter, for a bunch of reasons:
1 She wants a little girl to dress up, to be a mini version of her. She already had her son, who looks and sometimes acts (which she hates by the way) just like his father.

2 Narcissa always knew how much Lucius wanted a son to have a heir to the Malfoy family, she always knew once she had Draco, Lucius would want to take over on raising him with his own beliefs and be pressured into being the perfect pure blood. A daughter, on the other hand, would be totally hers, no worries or pressure (at least not like Draco).

3 Growing up the way she did, a daughter would also be perfect to make up for her negligent past. She knew how her parents wanted her to be a boy, Narcissa knew what was like to grow up being a disappointment to her parents, the pressure of being the perfect girl just to make up for the fact she wasn't what her parents wanted. A little girl would be her opportunity to give the love she's always craved from her parents, to show her daughter how much she was wanted.

Let's talk about her pregnancy with Draco:

- Considering how rich both the Malfoys and the Blacks are, I am sure this woman managed to stay elegant even during pregnancy, even when her belly was huge.

- She was probably absolutely scared of losing another baby.

- Unfortunately, it's most likely her pregnancy was very lonely for her. Yes sure, Lucius might have been around, but he wasn't exactly what she needed when it came to comfort. She didn't have the people who she most wanted: Andromeda and Bella.

Draco's childhood:

- When Draco was growing up, he was the only person who'd see her without her usual cold mask of the wife of a Death Eater and a woman of the Sacred 28.

- She has always been soft with him, and I imagine her calling him "little dragon" as a nickname. Something reserved for only when it was just the two of them.

- One of her biggest regrets was letting Lucius be tough on Draco. But she'd almost immediately comfort her son after his father left.

- She NEVER raises her voice to him (or any of her children).

- She constantly sends letters and gifts to Draco during his time at Hogwarts (this one is mostly canon).

- She doesn't condone his cruelty, no matter who's the target.

- She's always been conflicted about opening up to her son about her other pregnancies and about her dream of having more children. Because of how it still hurt to even remember all she went through, she preferred to not touch the subject, unless Draco did.

- Honestly? I think Draco has thought more than once about why he's an only child, but he's never wanted to actually bring up the subject either.

- She's the kind of mother a child would go to if they got hurt, needed advice, or to get comforted by.

Having a daughter:

- She's always hoped to have a daughter. She knew when she was with Lucius that if she had a son (or sons) they'd mostly take over more of the Malfoy side because of Lucius influence. However, she wanted a daughter to have someone to pass on more of the Black family traditions, without Lucius interference.

- She wanted to have a little company, because though Draco was her perfect little boy, Lucius was always around him, and he truly always looked up to his father, especially when he was a child. She wanted to have a little girl to be like this with her.

- I like to think she also never pressures her daughter into anything. Does she not want to dress feminine? Then Narcissa will be fully supportive, wanting nothing more than making her daughter happy.

- Just like with Draco, she would surely write letters and send gifts all the time during her daughter's time in Hogwarts.

Maternity with you:

- Since you two started to date, she knew she'd have to eventually bring up the subject of her troubled past with pregnancies and her dream of having more kids, especially once she realized you'd probably get married. She was afraid of talking about it, not only because it was obviously a hard subject, but she also didn't want you to think at all that she wanted you to become like a surrogate for her just to fulfill her dream. She wanted to make sure you'd understand having children was something she wanted WITH you.

- Of course she'll become fully protective of you once you get pregnant. Always around you, pampering you, making sure you're healthy and eating enough for the two of you, you and the baby, and being even more physical than what she usually was with you.

- You two are the perfect balance as mothers: both protective and caring, but Narcissa is more of a mama bear and a little more serious, meanwhile you're probably the fun mom.

- Sometimes when she watches you from afar with your child, she silently cries, thinking about how her dream came true, and how she has a perfect family, just like she always wished since she was just a little girl.

- Even though Carina is the carbon copy of you, she doesn't mind at all, because she has a child with you, and that's more than enough.
