Summary: Narcissa knocks on your door.
Warnings: light angst, happy ending.
The next day, Narcissa is standing nervously outside the door of your house. She doesn't want you to slam the door in her face and for you to refuse to talk to her. But she has to fix this: fix what she just messed up yesterday when she blew up at you.
After a few moments of trying to collect her courage, she knocks on the door. A few seconds later the door opens, and she's looking at your face. But your eyes are puffy, red, and you look like you've been crying.
Narcissa's heart clenches, knowing she's the reason for this. "May I come in?"
You are looking at Narcissa, and the last person you want to see right now is her. But she has the guts to show up at your door after yesterday, so you let her in reluctantly, but you don't offer for her to sit down. You sit on the sofa and cross your arms, waiting for what she has to say.
She stands awkwardly for a few seconds before walking over to the armchair across from you, and sitting down. There's a slight bit of tension as she waits for you to say something but you stay quiet and just look at her, expecting her to say something first.
"I..." Narcissa starts to say, then stops. The truth is: she didn't think that far ahead so she didn't plan what to say. She just knew she needed to see you as soon as possible and she needed to apologize to you right away. But now, her fear starts to sink in.
"I want to apologize for yesterday..." Narcissa starts, then continues quickly to avoid you interrupting her. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for how I acted, how I yelled at you and behaved yesterday..." she's rushing her words so she can make sure she says everything before you stop her and say something. "...And I'm sorry for the things I said. They weren't true, you're not a 'child' or 'naive and stupid', you're far from it.. you're actually the most wonderful person I've ever met..."
Narcissa has tears pooling in her eyes now, you haven't said a word so far. But that's probably because she hasn't given you a chance to chime into the conversation yet. She continues on with her apology. "I was afraid that... that you'd... realize later on that I'm just an old, damaged and bitter woman, and you could find someone way better than me..."
"...And I lashed out on you, and hurt you for just bringing up a normal topic, because I was afraid... and insecure." Narcissa's tears start streaming down her face, realizing and admitting out loud that she was scared. She's had her guard up for so long, putting on an emotionless and cold demeanor for so long, she forgot what it was like to be vulnerable and open up to someone and love them...
You're looking on her tear-stricken face and you see the woman who yelled at you yesterday is now sitting and crying - apologizing to you and being vulnerable, letting her emotions show. Your heart melts a tiny bit in that moment. You finally speak for the first time, your eyes starting to tear up as well but you stop and blink them away.
"I wanted to take the next step in our relationship, and introduce you to my family," you say in a weak voice, holding back tears. "But then you got angry at me for no reason, saying the most hurtful things... and I've never ever heard you yell at me that way." you look down, remembering what she said last night to you.
She swallows back a lump in her throat and waits patiently for you to say more, knowing she should let you speak and try to express everything.
"And when you raised your voice at me, it's like it brought me back to being a child in my house... where my parents used to say those same things to me while screaming and yelling. How I was naïve and dumb and stupid and how I was acting like a child..."
