As a seasoned campaign manager, I've seen it all but when I was tasked to handle Sailub's campaign for the next presidency, I knew this was going to be different. Sailub Hemmawich Kwanampaiphan was young, charismatic, and had proven himself worthy to be the next leader of our country. His track record was impeccable, and the people adored him for his sincerity and compassion so when I was offered the job, I didn't hesitate to say yes.
But little did I know that Sailub had a secret.
As I went through his files, I discovered that he was actively involved in LGBTQIA+ formalities in Congress. Considering the man's kindness and inclusivity, it wasn't a shock to me, but I couldn't help but feel a twinge of something I couldn't quite put my finger on. It might be something I have to ask later on, I wouldn't want to tarnish my reputation or his.
Our first meeting was formal, as expected. Sailub was even more handsome in person, with his piercing eyes and charming dimpled smile. I couldn't deny my attraction towards him at first glance, but I knew I had to keep my feelings in check. This campaign was too important, not just for Sailub, but for the entire country.
"Mr. Hemmawich, if there's anything that you'd like to tell me before we proceed with the campaign please tell me," I said as we went through everything for the campaign, every file, and every proper formalities. I looked him directly in the eye and was taken aback as he did the same. He was smiling but his eyes looked serious, he then motioned everyone to leave except me which was weird.
"Well, I'm telling this to you because I know you might've seen through it. I was told that you have a keen eye. Mr. Thanapon." Sailub says immediately as he hears the door closed. "Mr. Thanapon, I'm pretty sure you know everything about me now since I know you like to study people beforehand so I'm pretty sure by now you know that I'm..."
"Not straight?" I was actually worried about whatever he was going to say but I could guess his next words. He looked at me in surprise then it turned into something as if he was shy. "Look, that secret of yours is safe with me. We have the same goal and that is to make you win this candidacy. I won't do anything to ruin my reputation." I said as I was organizing the files in front of me.
"Pon..." He calls which made me look at him, though I might've looked like I was nonchalant about it. "Can I call you that? We'll be working close anyways." I fought the urge to just roll my eyes, I continued working on the files. "You can call me whatever," I said, not really minding him.
"It's nice to work with you, Pon." He hands out his hand for a handshake, a true candidate indeed. He shows his smile, once again. I just took his hand as I looked at him then smiled back, this is going to be a long journey.
Again, Sailub was the epitome of a leader: charismatic, intelligent, and compassionate. As we traveled from city to city, rally to rally, I watched as he captured the hearts of the people with his inspiring speeches and genuine concern for their well-being. I, on the other hand, was the mastermind behind the scenes, orchestrating every detail of his campaign with precision and strategy.
As we worked together, I saw the brilliance of Sailub's mind and the depth of his passion for our nation. I admired his courage and tenacity, and I couldn't help but fall for him which I shouldn't. Yet, I don't know if he was being kind or if he was flirting with me. Sometimes he would give me coffee, sit beside me while I worked, or take care of me when I was out in the sun.
Despite the long hours and intense pressure, I couldn't deny the spark that ignited between us. At first, I tried to ignore it, telling myself that I was simply admiring his leadership skills and nothing more. But as the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, I could no longer deny my true feelings.
