19: Try atleast

I was in my room studying for an upcoming test when I heard a knock from my door. "Come in!" "Hey Jackie." "Hey Luke. Whatcha doing here?" I asked him. "Um you know how Jess and you are dating right?" "So I've heard." "Well earlier I talked to his principal who said Jess isn't doing good in school." "Not doing good how?" "He's not paying attention, not trying, skipping, getting into fights, and talking back." "He told me he was doing good." "I was wondering if you could knock some sense into him?" "Of course. He told me he was doing good. I don't know why he's lying to me. But I'll try to talk to him." "Thanks Jackie." "Mhm anytime." "Here." "Omg Luke! Thank you!"I jumped up and grabbed a brownie, burger, and drink, that Luke was holding. "Okay well I'm gonna go."  Why would Jess lie to me. Even if it was about school he has to at least try. If he doesn't care I do.

Jess's pov
I watched as a woman came in and flirted with Luke. He and that lawyer chick had divorced. Not surprised though they took things kinda fast. "That was an interesting show." I said once she left. "What are you yammering about?" "Looks like Gloria Allred wants to go slumming." "Shut up." "She was totally coming into you." "Was not.""couldn't you hear her panting when you were signing those things?" "Couldn't see it." "She laughed at your jokes. We both know there's gotta be some ulterior motive to people that laugh at your jokes." "Okay whatever. Even if there was something. Which I'm not saying there was, she's a suit. Not my type." "Yeah especially since she's not a monk." "Oh I don't go out that much is that what that's supposed to mean?" "Please tell me when was the last time you went on a date?A year? Two years ago?" "Last month wiseass. With Joanna cooper." "That was a ride home." "A ride home is the end of a date." "Only if you go on a date first." "I'm not gonna discuss this with you."  "Suit yourself. I have to go see jackie anyhow. See I'm gonna go pick her up, spend a few hours actually with her. Then give her a ride home. That's called the end of a date." "Or I could stay open till 10:00 which is also the end of a date." "Hopeless." "Bye now." As i walked out the diner I saw Jackie. "Hi." I kissed her. "You look pretty." I complimented her like I promised I would. "Thanks." Something was off. "What's wrong?" "Jess are you ditching school?" Who told her? "No why?" "Luke said he talked to your principal and you've been ditching, not paying attention, not trying, and talking back. Don't lie." Dammit. "Look I haven't missed that much. I only talk back to asshole teachers and I don't need to pay attention I'm smarter than everyone there." "That doesn't matter. If the principal wants to he'll make you repeat junior year!" "No he won't." "And your so sure?" "Yes I am." "Jess you need to try." "Why I'm not gonna go to college. I could care less about school." "Jess you have to go." "No. You have to go." "Jess just try please." "Jackie you don't get it." "So what that's it your not gonna try?" "What the point?" "Fine then." She then began to walk off. "Where are you goin?" "What the point of telling you!" I watched as she walked off back to the direction of her house half expecting her to run back. But she didn't. I stormed off back to Luke's. "I need to talk to you now." I told him. "Ceasar hold down the diner please." As we made our way into the apartment I turned around and yelled out "thanks Luke. Thanks for being nosy and telling Jackie about school! Now we're in an argument." "About what." "She's mad cause I don't wanna go." "Then go. If you don't wanna argue solve it and go to school." I was gonna talk but he walked out. God. As I sat on my bed it hit me just how much Jackie cared about me.

God he was a jerk. This could have all been avoided if he had just agreed to trying school. Now here we are in an argument.

Time skip Tuesday
I haven't talked to Jess since Sunday. Today when I walked in the diner I was waiting for him or Luke to come down. Once Jess came down I was shocked. He had a big ass black eye with a cut next to it, the corner of his eye was red. "What can I get you?" He asked as if nothing was wrong. "An explanation to your black eye." "Sure you want coffee with that?" "Jess I'm serious." "I am too. Yes or no to the coffee." "God stop acting like a jerk for one minute." "Stop making a big fuss over this." "Then tell me what happened!" I shouted. By now the whole diner was staring at us. I didn't care not until Jess told me what happened. "Come up." I followed him upstairs. "Tell me. Was it Tristan? Logan?" "God it always comes back to them huh?" "Jess this isn't about them!" "Look I gotta go call Eddie and lumpy snd tell em I'm gonna be late if your gonna go all ward cleaver on me." God the audacity. "Jess stop being and asshole and just tell me." "No." "Why." "No." "You know what fine. Screw this." "I told ya." "Fuck you jess!" "Right back at ya." Huh that went well. As I walked down stairs all eyes were on me. I ran home not wanting to cry in public. After 20 minutes at max of sobbing, I decided I would go and ask Tristan and Logan. I called Tristan and asked him if he's seen Jess recently. "No not since I was there last month." "So you guys haven't talked?" "Nope." "Okay thanks Tristan." Now Logan. I took a deep breath then dialed his number. The phone rang twice before someone answered it. "Hello?" "Logan? Hi. It's Jackie." "Jackie. Hi." " um have you talked to or seen Jess recently?" "Um no why?" "Just asking. Thanks though." "Mhm." "Hey Logan?" "Yeah?" "I'm sorry about everything."  "It's okay." "Your sure?" "Yeah." "Okay well I gotta go bye." "Bye Jackie."

Me and Jess haven't talked in 2 days he hasn't answered my calls cause he's been out.My mom sent me out to go get Luke's for dinner. As I walked out I heard. "Jackie!" I tuned around and saw Jess come up behind me. "Hey." I said. "Hi." "I tired to call you, but you didn't answer." I told him. "I was gonna call you but you would've been out." "Ironic huh?" "Sure is." As we looked at the ground I decried to tell him about Tristan and Logan. "Hey um I just wanted to tell you that I talked to Tristan and Logan." "For?" "To ask if they've seen or talked to you. No that I don't trust you, I do but, just to be safe y'know?" "Yeah . Thanks for telling me." "Yeah." He sighed then said "look since we're so into the truth tonight I'll tell you about my black eye would that make you happy?" "Very." I said smiling. "But you gotta promis not to laugh or tease me, or hold this against me." "Pinky promise." I reached my pinky out. "Those don't mean anything." "To me they do. So I won't break it." He sighed and looked across the street. He finally looked at me, grabbed my what and said "I was walking past the bridge, sat down, and a swan came out of nowhere and beaked me straight in the eye." I put my lips together and hit on my lip hard. I didn't want to laugh. But a swan fucked him up. How could you not laugh. "You promised you wouldn't laugh." "I'm sorry I've just never heard beaked be used like that." "Yeah since it's so funny." "Thank you for telling me." "And I- I'll try in school." "Really?" "Only for you." "Okay beaky." "Don't call me that." "Sorry beaky." "Jackie." "Jess." I smiled at him as he smiled back. He leaned down to kiss me, as the kiss got deeper I stood on my tip toes, as he used his hand that was on my back to kinda pick me up. I held onto his hair as we made out. I pulled apart and looked down. He put his forehead on mines. "I have to go." I said. "Don't." "I don't want to." "Then don't let's go somewhere." "My food'll get cold." "I'll reimburse you." "My mom's waiting." He sighed and pulled apart. "Since you were honest we'll do whatever you want tomorrow." I told like I was a mom who was telling her some she would give him candy. "Even if I want to hookup?" "Yes beaky." "Only you." He said looking into my eyes. "You look beautiful." "Thank you." "You gotta go." "Right. Bye Jess." I leaned up to kiss him. "Bye love you." "Love you too."
