Dog Days

Chapter 4

After a shower, I dry off as Loki stands next to me, getting dressed. Once I'm done and start getting dressed, he pulls on his shirt and looks towards me "What time do you start in the morning?"

I give him a weak smile, before declaring "0600 hours."

He gives a short nod, before asking "Where?"

I can't help but smile, before declaring "We'll be in the field beside your tent. They set you up there for a reason."

He gives a short nod, before declaring "I'll see you tomorrow morning."

As he's about leave, I call out to him "Are you alright?"

He closes the tent, before turning towards me. He takes in a deep breath, before declaring "I don't normally do something like this."

I furrow my brow as I pull up my pants "Like what?"

He takes in a deep breath, before declaring "I don't normally have sex with people, unless it gives me a leg up in my job. Even when I'm not working, all that ever comes out of it is a one night stand."

I give a short nod, before asking "And it's difficult because you'll be seeing me everyday?"

He stands there for a moment, before telling me "It's difficult because I don't know the appropriate way to react to this." He looks down, before declaring "I don't even know what this is."

I take a step towards him and he looks up to me as I state "I like being around you, even if most of your life is off limits to me." His eyes lock on mine as I raise my hand to move a stray hair out of his face "And, I'm willing to reword every question I have to know more about you."

He scoffs, before declaring "If you knew what I've done, you wouldn't want to know me."

I cup his cheek in my hand, before declaring "You do what you do because you have to. Nothing you can tell me can phase me."

He narrows his gaze at me and states "I've done things that have shocked me."

I give him a weak smile, before declaring "You don't have to worry about me." He gives a short nod, before I sigh "I don't know what this is yet, either."

He gives a short nod, before I confess "I'm ready to settle down." He gives me a confused look, before I explain "I decided awhile ago that I wouldn't be renewing my contract. I'm ready to get out of this life, and look towards the future."

He sets his jaw and I continue "I don't fuck just anyone." He takes in a deep breath and I state "I like you, Loki. You're the first person I've had sex with in over a year. And, even before that, I've only ever had one night stands or serious relationships."

He takes in a deep breath, before asking "So, which am I?"

I narrow my gaze at him and state "You're the first person I can imagine having a life with, even if you're only home for a few days a month." His face begins to melt and I state "Within fifteen minutes of meeting you, you entrapped me." He scoffs and looks off as I state "You're all I've been able to think about, today. And, the moment I saw you, I felt like I needed to know you."

He sets his jaw and thinks for a moment, before furrowing his brow and stepping back "Its unwise of you to say that." I give a confused look and he sighs "I don't think you would be satisfied with what little information you would have of me. You would never know where I am, when I'll be home..." he gives me a sad smile "If I'm even still alive."

I furrow my brow and state "I don't like it, no." He nods and I sigh "All I know is that I want you in my life, and you need someone stable to lead you home."
