IT CONTINUES! Glad to hear you guys liked the start of the hearing and the stress poor Dabi faced on the stand! Time to spread the love and give Keigo his time to shine. Hopefully no charring of wood will occur, but guess we shall see!
As a side note: I'm getting hyped to build a gaming PC so I can spend every waking moment away from work playing Baldur's Gate 3 😂 I cannot emphasize my need to make a tiefling romance Astarion ENOUGH 😈🖤💜
Listening to Dabi make his witness testimony had been nerve-wracking enough. When Keigo heard his own name get called, he couldn't help the way his feathers puffed up in response.
He knew Shimizu. Not very well, but enough. The man had been on the Commission's board for as long as Keigo could remember. He had always been relatively quiet during all of Keigo's debriefs, but had spoken up more than once during training demonstrations. He always demanded harsher training protocols. And he always got them.
And now the bastard was here playing lawyer.
Keigo could almost guarantee that when the HPSC president asked Shimizu to play the role, the man's ego had impossibly grown further.
He snapped out of his thoughts when a sharp elbow dug into his side.
Keigo flicked his eyes over to Dabi, who jerked his head in the direction of the witness stand.
Right.
Keigo swallowed and stood, unconsciously messing with his suit jacket and trying to pull his wings tight to his back. What would look most respectable?
Moving around the back of the stand, Keigo took the step up and sat down in the chair. He let himself glance briefly at the scorched wood in front of him from Dabi's hands for just a moment before focusing his attention forward.
Aizawa was watching him carefully, and gave him a small nod of encouragement from the plaintiff's table. Keigo gave the barest of nods in response and forced himself to take a breath.
You've practiced this, Keigo reminded himself. Aizawa is right there. You're fine. He's right there.
When he moved his attention onto Dabi, the man gave him a dry look and raised an eyebrow. It immediately settled some of the tension lacing his body. Keigo gave a quiet snort and relaxed ever so slightly.
After all, Dabi had already testified and came out okay with Nighteye at his back.
Keigo could do this.
He could.
...right?
Just as his eyes were about to slide towards Shimizu, Nighteye side-stepped to block Keigo's view of the defendant's table completely.
"Keigo Takami, also known as the Pro Hero Hawks," Nighteye started, drawing Keigo's attention right to him. "Would you please state your relation to the defendants?"
Keigo felt like he could feel his heartbeat in his throat. After giving a couple coughs to try and clear the sensation, he leaned forward to speak into the microphone.
"I was placed into the custody of the Hero Public Safety Commission when I was six years old," Keigo answered.
Nighteye hummed thoughtfully. "How were you transferred into the Commission's custody?"
Keigo felt the muscles in his jaw twitch. Realistically he had known putting his entire life story out there was part of the case. It didn't make it easier to talk about.
