Chapter Text

"How have you never been here before?"

"I don't have wings, jackass. How would you expect me to get up here?"

"With all the smack you talk, I'd've expected you to jump."

Keigo let out a squawk and a laugh when Mirko punched him hard on the shoulder.

"Yikes! You want me to fall?" he asked as he straightened and leaned forwards to peer down. He idly kicked his legs back and forth in the wind.

After he and Mirko had met up, they'd gone out for food before they started aimlessly walking the city and chatting. And Keigo had to admit, it was easy to talk to Mirko. She was similar to Dabi in the way that she was blunt and to the point, which meant he never had to read into her words.

Unlike Dabi, she didn't get hung up on talking about her feelings and made her opinions unapologetically known to anyone that would listen. It was refreshing in a way Keigo didn't realize he needed.

And now they sat together at a platform of a cell tower in the middle of the city. It had barely taken any convincing to get Mirko to go up with him, though he laughed at how tightly she'd clung to his neck as he flew them to the top.

"If I wanted you to fall, I'd kick you off myself," she deadpanned, leaning back on her hands and tilting her head back to stare up at the sky. Her larger feet mimicked his own, swinging idly back and forth over the ledge.

"I don't doubt that," he replied with an amused huff.

They sat quietly for a few moments before Mirko dropped her head to the side to look at him, ears twitching in his direction.

"So what's the plan now, birdbrain?" she asked.

Keigo smirked, leaning back on his own hands to mirror her. "I don't know," he answered. "We could grab some boba or something if you want."

She raised an eyebrow. "As good as that sounds, I meant it more existentially. What're you gonna do now that the Commission isn't holding your leash?"

His smirk dimmed and he sat forwards again, letting his hands fall to grip the metal of the ledge where they sat.

"Oh, uhm...I guess I'll see what UA has planned."

Mirko snorted.

"What?" Keigo asked. "Not a good enough answer for you?"

"No."

He frowned and turned to look at her again. "What do you want me to say?"

She shrugged, looking completely unbothered.

"Have a backbone, Keigo," she replied as if it were obvious. "Fuck seeing what someone else has planned. What do you want to do?"

"I don't know..."
