Notes:
Welcome back to the post-trial world!!! Time for you guys to see if I can actually be nice to characters for once, or if angst is too ingrained in my soul 😈🤭 Guess you gotta read to find out~~~
You may or may not have noticed, but I officially put a total chapter count on this fic. I finished outlining the rest of what I want to include, and that's my estimate. Thanks as ALWAYS to everyone who has been enjoying reading this story as much as I have been writing it. 💜🖤💜🖤 No joke, this fic would NOT have been able to be written without all the love you guys have had for it. You guys are the best 💜🖤
Dabi and Keigo: "Well, what do you do when we're gone?"
Eri: 🥺
Eri: "Wait for you to get back."(See the end of the chapter for .)
Chapter Text
"I don't know if they'll like it."
"What do you mean?" Midnight asked gently. She placed a hand on Eri's back as she peered over the girl's shoulder. "Why wouldn't they like it?"
"Yeah," Jirou added. She smiled from across the table. "I think it looks great!"
Eri let out a frustrated huff and dropped her hands onto the table in front of her.
When Dabi and Keigo had left that morning, Eri felt lost. Not knowing what to do, she'd clutched her stuffed cat to her chest and sat down on the floor and stared at the door. She wondered what they were doing. She wondered if they were okay.
She wondered if they were scared.
She wanted to help. But Dabi had said she couldn't go with them.
It had taken quite a bit of coaxing on Midnight's part to get her to stop keeping vigil at the door, but even then Eri didn't know what to do while she waited. Her anxiety kept distracting her.
At least until Midnight had offered to have Jirou come over. Eri had perked up at the mention of her name. She felt like she hadn't seen Jirou in forever!
Then Jirou had arrived, one thing led to another, and now they stood in a kitchen that looked like it had exploded in flour and frosting. The quiet sounds of punk rock played off Jirou's phone.
Eri leaned her face forward to inspect the cake they'd made.
It was a horribly lopsided two layer cake. Eri thought Dabi would enjoy a chocolate cake and Keigo would like strawberry, so she made one layer of each with the help of Midnight and Jirou. It had been a lot of fun and had succeeded in taking her mind off the trial.
But now she had covered it with some cream cheese frosting and was suddenly second-guessing herself.
"What if it tastes bad?" she asked quietly.
Jirou lifted an eyebrow before leaning forward onto the table with her elbows. "I know a really good way to see if it tastes good," she whispered secretively.
Eri's eyes widened as she looked up at Jirou.
"How?"
Jirou fought back a smile and straightened, pulling the plate with the cake on it closer to her. She picked up a pair of forks and used one to carefully lift up the edge of the cake. With the other, she plucked out a piece. She dug far enough in to get a sample of each layer.
