Summary:

There are two wolves inside Keigo: One is anxiety and the other is also anxiety.

Listening to the Commission president give her testimony does not help with the wolves.

Notes:

Heyo!!! Back at it again with the white vans!

It pleases me how much you guys hate Centipeder, and reading your comments about him on the last chapter made me cackle 😈

I think it's been a while since I did a good old fashioned "THANK YOU!" in my author notes, so just wanted to once again THANK ALL OF YOU for reading my story and enjoying it as much as I have! 🥹💜🖤

Chapter Text

It felt surreal, watching the president rise from her seat. The room was dead quiet, but Keigo didn't think he'd be able to hear anything anyways–not with the way his blood was pounding in his ears.

His fingertips felt like they were going numb while his palms felt hot and uncomfortable. He tried to swallow back some of his anxiety, but his tongue felt like lead and his chest felt restricted.

But there she went, passing by him and climbing those steps to the witness stand as calmly as if she were being asked to chat with an old friend.

Keigo felt the way Dabi tightened his grip on the feather, and he tried to focus on that rather than the beating of his heart in his chest.

"Madam President," came Shimizu's voice, finally breaking through both the blood rushing in Keigo's ears. "Thank you for being able to join us today."

Thank you?! Keigo thought almost hysterically. She's one of the ones on trial!

"Would you please state for the court your position and relation to this case?"

The president watched Shimizu with cool but sharp eyes.

"I am the president of the Hero Public Safety Commission of Japan," she responded. "We have been involved in this case regarding our dealings with Endeavor and his agency, public relations, and the circumstances of Hawks's upbringing."

"Well summarized, Madam President," Shimizu praised. Keigo's jaw ached from how tightly it was clenched. He knew from Shimizu's days on the Commission board that the man was a kiss ass. It was almost embarrassing to see how obvious he was in trying to compliment her.

It made Keigo's skin crawl. Had he ever sounded like that when aiming to please? His eyes closed as he took a centering breath. God, he really hoped not.

"Would you please summarize the Hero Public Safety Commission's role?"

"The Hero Public Safety Commission is an organization that was created to enforce a balance between the interactions of Heroes with society, as well as act as the central pillar for the investigation and mitigation of the criminals and villains that pose the greatest threat and danger to Japan," she recited smoothly. "Not only has the Commission reformed the way Heroes are integrated into our society, it has also brought countless villains into custody, thereby preventing innumerable damage to the Japanese people."

Shimizu nodded sagely at her answer before turning and beginning to trail a slow pace around the floor. "And in your opinion, Madam President, would you say the Commission has served Japan for the better?"

"Indeed I would."

"And what is your stance on the accusations UA has put forth that the Commission is withholding vital information from the public?"
