Summary:
A lot of thoughts are running through Aizawa's head:

Chapter Text
Despite everything, Aizawa had still held onto the hope that the judges were impartial. That they'd be able to give their testimonies and present their evidence, and that they'd have a fair shot.
How could he have let himself be so naive?
Maybe it was because life had led him to this point. Maybe it was because Judge Eniwa had given them a chance. Maybe it was because he still wanted to believe in people. Because if he couldn't do that...
He sat back down at the plaintiff's table in the courtroom and cast a wary look at the empty judges' stand.
"We've got a problem," Natsuo had said, trailing after Dabi when he burst back into the courtyard, smoke pouring out of the corners of his mouth.
And out of everything Aizawa braced himself to hear, blatant illegal conspiracy wasn't one of them.
He was lucky that Dabi trusted him enough to take a stilted "we've got a plan" as an answer. Well, he'd cursed Aizawa out for a while first and set a bench on fire. But then he had settled into a sort of aggravated acceptance. Aizawa wanted to give him more information to reassure him, but right now the fewer people that knew his and Nighteye's plans the better.
After all, if Shimizu was to the point of resorting to direct interference with the judges, who knew what he'd be able to counteract? They couldn't chance the man figuring out their plan and getting rid of their failsafes.
He glanced to the left as Shimizu and the defendants filed back into the courtroom and took their seats. He could practically feel Dabi vibrating with anger at his side, but thankfully he was able to keep himself in check. It served as a good reminder for Aizawa to reel in his own rage.
It was a hard task when Shimizu sent a smirk his way. But he managed to pull his attention forward as the judges walked back in.
Their faces gave nothing away.
Aizawa narrowed his eyes at Kaiba in particular as she sat down primly, nose slightly upturned. One of her ears twitched as she locked onto Aizawa, freezing for a moment before letting out a silent huff and turning back to Judge Eniwa.
"Thank you for returning from the intermission," Judge Eniwa projected. She adjusted the glasses perched on the tip of her nose as she looked to the defendant's table. "As previously stated, we will now move into the defense testimonies and presentation of evidence. Are you ready to resume the trial?"
Sir Nighteye stood calmly and gave a nod. "The prosecution is ready, your honor."
Shimizu pushed his chair back as he stood up from the table. "We are, your honor," he answered with a firm nod.
Judge Rikimaru gave a quick sniff and leaned forwards on his elbows. "You may proceed, then, Counselor Shimizu, with your first witness."
Shimizu straightened and pulled sharply on the lapels of his suit jacket, sending a blank look towards Nighteye as the man sat back down.
